HD-Vinyls 96/24 (Philips) Antonio Vivaldi – Concertos for 1, 2 and 4 Guitars (Los Romeros)

And again, the evidence that a digital production on vinyl better sounds than the same work on CD
Let’s face it: there have been literally hundreds of Vivaldi’s recordings made over the last 20 years (even longer if you include the many recordings made during the 60s and 70s that have since been digitally remastered), and while most of these recordings are just as good as the next, I found this particular recording to contain a certain depth and richness not usually associated with Baroque music. I use the word “depth” loosely as Baroque music is generally not meant to be “deep” or “expressive” in nature (after all, we’re not talking about Rachmaninov here!) 😉

HD-Vinyls 96/24 (Decca) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Le Nozze Di Figaro (Della Casa, Siepi, Gueden, Corena – Kleiber)

front_small_boxset
Erich Kleiber’s 1955 Vienna Figaro marked the first complete recording of what is arguably Mozart’s greatest opera. What a performance! Cesare Siepi and Alfred Poell bring Figaro and the Count, respectively, to life, and play off each other, as do the female principals. Hilde Gueden’s sweet and straightforward Susanna stands out, along with Fernando Corena’s deliciously idiomatic Bartolo (his is still the best Act I Vengeance aria on disc). Kleiber’s well-drilled Viennese musicians are an integral part of the ensemble. The legendary conductor’s sense of proportion, transition, and rightness of tempo still rings true after all these years. –Jed Distler

This is the evidence of how the sound engineers of the old “golden” era used to work.

This recording blows you away and finally you will know, what “audiophile” means.

Amazing HD-Vinyl 24/96 (RCA Living Stereo) George Gershwin – Rhapsody in Blue/An American in Paris (Wild)

Reposted, now with FF links
This is the type of music that Arthur Fieldler excelled at, and Earl Wild is simply fabulous.
One danger with Gershwin is that his mixing of classical and jazz has flummoxed more than a few otherwise excellent conductors and pianists who seem to miss the jazz feel that the piece requires. Neither Fiedler nor Wild had this problem. The result is an exciting recording, and, consequently, my favorite one of these pieces.
This recording blows the ach-so-acclaimed Bernstein version literally out of the window.
