The melodious “Pastoral” symphony takes on added meaning in light of the circumstances in which Beethoven composed it – a time when he was experiencing great emotional torment. He had started losing his hearing in his late twenties. The loss was progressive, causing him deep despair. Seeking to ease his sorrows with long walks in the fields and forests, he jotted down musical ideas. From these, he created a number of masterpieces – among them his Sixth Symphony.

Our future is save!

Friends…our future, concerning 1st class rips from Rachmaninov could not be better !

Two weeks ago I bought a Denon Turntable, the DP 57L, very nice, more than 30Y old but in Near Mint Condition, payed 445 EUR…to be destinated to work togheter with my other TT – the Kenwood KD-7010+Denon DL103 – for my customers, with sporadic missions for Boxset.ru….there was mounted an older cart by Ortofon, that doen’t seem to be bad…this is what I thought until some hours before.

SONY DSC

NOT BAD ??? Oh boy…after some better hearings; it is marvellous warm, total bass control, without distorsions or any other errors…..

After some help from my friends of the “other” blog and after some researches on the web, I realized that I have an Ortofon Virtus MC cart, maybe 12Y or more old, but so gooooooood ! The vendor of the Denon TT told me, it was in the last years connected with a Mark Levinson No. 26, but used only some hours in the year….in total it has maybe 200 hours.

The Ortofon Virtus is a cart of the 700-800 EUR class.

So, at now, I have 3 turntables and 3 carts to delight you 😉

Our future rips are save.

A new birdie is coming home ;)

SONY DSC

Arrived…ooops…landed yesterday at my home.

Brand new and wonderful…it can’t wait to start to sing again.

I run it 2-3 weeks without ripping. Then it will come over you.

Stay tuned!

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (DGG) Johann Sebastian Bach – Complete Lute Works (Narciso Yepes)

front_small_boxset

Due to a FF-issue, part 3 is re-uploaded
For me, the best performance of Bach’s complete solo lute works, period. This 2 LP box set is highly recommended.
Yepes was a consummate technician and a knowledgeable interpreter of all musical idioms from the Middle Ages through to the height of the 20th Century avant-garde. His playing was characterized by intelligence, sensibility, clarity, power, majesty, poetry, and a devilish ability to separate and sustain contrapuntal lines.

My wonderful Bird maybe has flown away :(

I don’t know, what happened….
Yesterday, early afternoon, after I had finished a rip, wanted to start 1 hour later another one and realized, that the right channel was dead.
I tried switching cables from right to left and viceversa, with no luck. I mounted my Denon DL103 that I have on the Kenwood TT and both channels were OK.
OK, what does it means now, for you? This is not a call to donate for a new cart…no, no.
I send the cart on monday to the seller and hope their things go the right way, although I read some reports, of people that have/had the BB, Sumiko would react very hard and uncooperative, telling to the customs, they would have caused the damage.
Anyway, I have a brilliant brother in law who is advocat, a very good one.

Simply, let’s wait, what happens in the next weeks.
In the mean time I will reduce, drastically, my output. Some rips I will offer, will be done with the Denon DL103.

I keep you informed!

Good news, Folk !!!!!!!

The Sumiko distributor in Germany has replaced the damaged Black Bird with a brand new one….
…and the warranty starts from now on again, for the duration of 1 year
😀 😀 😀

I should receive the new Bird this coming week, so I will run it without ripping for a week or so, to get togheter the famous 40-50 hours for burning.

Have a nice Weekend to you all !!!!!!!

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (EMI) Giacomo Puccini – Madama Butterfly (Scotto/Bergonzi/Barbirolli)

front_small_boxset
Maybe you know, my friends, that I’m not a fan of Mrs Scotto. But, hell, I must admit, she’s here totally into the role of the unhappy Cio-Cio-San, that she has touched me…Glad to have heard her on this beautiful set, that I only bought because of Bergonzi. I have never been so moved. I have some fine recordings of Butterfly — Tebaldi, Freni, Price — yet none have moved me as this one. They all have their fine points, and moving parts that bring one to tears, but this recording is so much more than the occasional fine moment. After I heard this opera twice in a row, I’m convinced, that this is the best “Butterfly” in the milky way.

Bruno Walter / Columbia Symphony Orchestra – Beethoven: Symphony No. 4 (Franklin Mint pressing, red vinyl)

No conductor could have closer affinities with this genial yet gloriously vital symphony than Bruno Walter. Probably the most affectionately remembered maestro of recent times, he led the all-star west-coast Columbia Symphony Orchestra especially created for him in this characteristically Walterian Fourth. It was recorded in Hollywood, in February 1958, as part of his second cycle of all nine Beethoven symphonies.

This symphony’s orchestration differs from the conventional specifications of the time (wind instruments in pairs, timpani and strings) only in calling for a single flute rather than a pair. The first and last movements are in sonata form, the second may be considered to be in either rondo or sonata form, and the third, while called Menuetto in the score, is actually a genuine Beethoven scherzo.

Otto Klemperer / Philharmonia Orchestra – Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 (Franklin Mint pressing, red vinyl)

All of Klemperer’s vaunted “Olympian” qualities were brought to bear in his phenomenal first recording of this work – regarded by many as the greatest of all symphonies – a reading as large-scaled and vital as the work itself. Majestic and powerful in the true classical sense, the listener becomes totally immersed in the compassion and affirmation of Beethoven’s vision.

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Decca) Vincenzo Bellini – I Puritani (Sutherland/Pavarotti/Bonynge)

front_small_boxsetMany thanks to our Bob for this fantastic gift
Maybe I get sentimental, when I get older and older, but I always send a kiss to heaven and cannot thank enough, if I can hear again the voices of Sutherland, Pavarotti, Ghiaurov and the music of Bellini. The sicilian wonder Bellini died too early (aged 34), but he conditioned and impressed the opera scene like no one other. His handful of operas are among the most beautiful you can find in the operatics world: Norma, I Capuleti E I Montecchi, La Sonnambula, Beatrice Di Tenda, I Puritani.
