Audiophile HD-Vinyl 24/192 (HM) Jean-Philippe Rameau – Anacréon

front-small-boxset
I am a fan of baroque music, but must admit that the big French operas can’t hold my interest all the way through. What we have here is a small comedie-ballet by Rameau which is essentially a small one act opera on the subject of Anacreon. There are moments of rustic pleasantness, an apparent tempest complete with lightning, and Bacchanalian revels. Rameau was a master of orchestral colour, and provides a huge range of emotion over the five scenes of this work.

Audiophile HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Chandos) Ottorino Respighi – Belkis Queen Of Sheba & Metamorphoseon

front-small-boxset
Dont ask me, my friends, why this recording sounds phenomenal outstanding, although it is a digital production. Hear and judge by yourself.

‘Belkis, Queen of Sheba’ was the Romantic musical equivalent of those Hollywood Roman empire/Bible epics like ‘The Ten Commandments’ or ‘Spartacus’. It has never been recorded complete, but the suite of four movements extracted by the composer gives a good idea of what a spectacle it must have been. It sounds a lot like movie music, in fact, and that’s a complement. ‘Metamorphoseon’, by contrast, is a brilliant theme and variations on a Gregorian tune that was commissioned for the 50th anniversary of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Its neglect is inexplicable, unless it’s due to the fact that it requires an organ at the end, which makes it impractical for many orchestras. These performances are thrilling, and so is the sound. –David Hurwitz

front_small_boxset04
Box 04 with 4 LPs
This is a project I wanted to realize for my life and I started to buy the box-sets from all over the world. It took me around 3 years, because I wanted only Mint or NearMint box-sets. So 3 of them are Mint and never played, all the other are NM. The whole collection costed me almost 600 EUR…if you feel, you want to contribute to this Herakles-work, so you are welcome. Click on the donation button, at the end of this post.

HD-Vinyls 96/24 (DGG) Franz Schubert – Symphonies No. 5 & 6 (Maazel)

front-small-boxset
Almost a wonder to have found this 1st pressing in EX quality for 50 Cents on a flea market.

Rare repertoire from a major conductor in the early Sixties. Treading into prime Beecham territory, Maazel turns out to be terrific, full of energy and force but also delicate when called for, only lacking Beecham’s unique affability in this music. The Berliners play much better than Beecham’s post-war Royal Phil., however, I hear spontaneity and verve (admittedly, some movements, like the finale of the Fourth Sym., go at a breathless Presto). If Maazel had kept evolving, he would have replaced Guido Cantelli, whose propulsive neo-Tosanini style was close to this.
