Audiophile HD-Vinyl 24/192 (Smithsonian Institution) Johann Sebastian Bach – 3 Works For Solo Harpsichord (James Weaver)

front-small-boxset2
Many thanks for this beauty to our friend Booksaregood
Concerto in D-Minor After Marcello, BWV 974
Italian Concerto, BWV 971
French Ouverture, BWV 831
These are exceptionally fine readings by James Weaver, but the star of this show is the Wolf harpsichord. The sound captured here is simply the best and most beautiful harpsichord I have ever heard. It is a mystery why it is so difficult to record or capture the harpsichord qua instrument, as opposed to “ye olde” social statement, with its essence sounding pin-pointy lovely, without clatter.
Recorded 7-9 December 1987 in the National Museum of American History, Washington D.C.

Merry Christmas everybody !!!!
Many thanks to our friend Jean-Luc

It is very difficult to maintain the serene objectivity and required tact when we are talking about Ferenc Fricsay. Specially when we have to mention one of the most reminded and well known Symphonic works that for so many years has engaged and captivated the great audiences all over the whole world. What Fricsay achieved with the hundred musicians of the Berlin was simply incredible. The performance is filled of undeniable vitality, sweeping energy, stylized phrasing and mercurial passion. Such evidence of fervor and emotive conviction to be true, I have never listened in any other recording recorded previously and pitifully recently.

FileFactory has changed the DL politic ???

Hi friends, I got reported from many of you, that they cannot DL anymore from FF and instead of DL they get the advice that the files owner (me) has restricted the DLs only to premium account owners.

This is the advice appears:

Premium Account Required

The owner of this file has restricted it to members with an active Premium Account. Please purchase an account to download this file.

Please contact support if you require further assistance.

THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT TRUE.

This is what I wrote just now to the supporters of FF:

Hi Bill, some of my customers and friends reported me they are unable to DL some files and they get the advice that the files owners (me) has set the files to DL only for premium accounts owners. But this is double not true:
1 – I didn’t set the files that way….
2 – There is no restriction that I can see…all my files are without any option and free DLable for all (just checked it now). I didn’t anything. I tried to DL after I made logout and I get that advice.

What happens there?

If FF has decided to sell more premium accounts by doing this action, I can only say, this is more than deprecable and disgraceful, because you give the impression, that it was my intention and not yours.

Please reallocate all settings, so everything works like it was before.

Best regards.

I don’t know if this is a temporary error on FF’ side. Let’s wait some days, until they answer and then, let’s think about what to do.

EDIT 20 minutes later

Hi friends, with the help of some guy from my other blog I could resolve this mistery. However, something on FF side had caused this issue, setting in my “DL settings-window” on my account, that damned switch “ON” instead of “OFF”, like it was for the last two years, since I’m on FF.

OK, now it’s set again “OFF” and you all can DL like before.

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Melodiya) Peter Tchaikowsky – Swan Lake Ballet, Complete (Rozhdestvensky)

Many thanks for this beauty to our friend Jean-Luc
This was one of the first recordings of the complete Swan Lake. A Melodiya recording, so it has bounced around from label to label. Rozhdestvensky was criticized by some balletomanes as being too fast to dance. But the Bolshoi gave many performances with Rozhdestvensky conducting this score, and he does not indulge the dance tempos too much. Instead of the distortions frequently taken, he follows a musical approach that is sensible and fluid. The sound is a bit in your face, but not seriously.

Audiophile HD-Vinyl 24/192 (Philips) Franz Liszt – Piano Concerti No. 1 + 2 (Richter/Kondrashin)

front-small-boxset
A true Mercury-Recording, brought on 180g Virgin Vinyl to you by Speakers Corner from 2010
Since they were first issued, Sviatoslov Richter’s Liszt Piano Concerti have been widely admired as the finest performances available, and for most listeners they still are. Now they have been remastered by none other than Wilma Cozart Fine, Mercury Living Presence’s goddess of the sound console, and they have come up sounding better than ever. Even if you hate Liszt, hate concertos, hate pianos, hate Russians, hate music in general, you should own and treasure (or punish yourself regularly) with this recording. –David Hurwitz

Die Zwillingsbrüder (The Twin Brothers, D. 647) is a one-act Singspiel (sometimes also described as a Posse mit Gesang) composed by Franz Schubert in 1819 on a libretto by Georg Ernst von Hofmann. Die Zwillingsbrüder was first performed at the Kärntnertortheater on June 14, 1820.

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (EMI) Carl Maria von Weber – Abu Hassan (Moser/Gedda/Moll)

front-small-boxset
All thanks for this beauty go to our friend Bob
Written in 1810, this frothy little farce reflects the then-current fashion for “Turkish” themes. The overture is fizzingly brilliant, leading to a sequence of ten numbers, only three of them arias, including two for Abu Hassan’s wife, Fatime. The plot involves the machinations of Abu Hassan to get himself out of debt, with the Caliph (one of the three speaking roles) finally awarding him a thousand gold pieces. Sawallisch conducts a brilliant performance, with Nicolai Gedda in the title role pointing his music lightly, with Edda Moser vibrantly as his wife, and with Kurt Moll superb as the grasping money lender, Omar.
This come with first rate sound, engineered in 1975 by an EMI-Electrola team.

Audiophile HD-Vinyl 24/96 (EMI) Antonio Vivaldi – The Four Seasons (Mutter/Karajan)

For those who prefer their baroque music on modern instruments, this wonderful performance by Anne-Sophie Mutter stands out as one of the best in a vast number of other good choices. Karajan leads the Vienna Philharmonic in a sensuous, ultra-romanticzed performance of this overplayed warhorse, and Anne-Sophie’s youthful exuberance shines through.
