HD-Vinyl 96/24 (Melodiya/EMI) Sergei Rachmaninov – The Bells (Kondrashin)

front-small-boxset
Many thanks to Jean-Luc for this rarity
This recording of Rachmaninov’s The Bells is excellent. An admirer had suggested Rachmaninov set Edgar Allan Poe’s poem, The Bells, to music. Poe’s poem dealt with four important life experiences as expressed in the sounds of different bells (silver – youth, gold – marriage, brass – war, iron – mourning). Rachmaninov set them as a four-movement choral piece, wonderfully capturing the different sounds and moods.

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Decca Eclipse) Haydn, Boccherini, Vivaldi – Cello Concerti (Fournier)

front-small-boxset Many thanks to Jean-Luc for these little pearls
Paris-born Pierre Fournier (1906-1986) was the leading French cellist of his time, renowned for his elegant playing of the standard repertoire and for his ties to such contemporary composers as Roussel, Schoeck, Martinon, Martin, Poulenc, and others whose works were dedicated to him or which he premiered. Fournier’s recordings include the major solo works and concertos, along with important chamber music pieces in which he was partnered by such artists as Schnabel and Kempff, among others.

Super HD-Vinyl 192/24 (Telarc) Carl Orff – Carmina Burana

front-small-boxset
Revisited with the Black Bird Gang – rip from Apr. 2016
In my opinion, the best sounding “Carmina” and one of the best interpretations. A great feast for your ears and your equipement.
Although this is (probably) a 16bit/44.1kHz digital production, the vinyl sounds worlds better that the CD…trust in me (cit.)

Super HD-Vinyl 192/24 (Telarc) Camille Saint-Saens – (Organ)Symphony No. 3 (Ormandy/Murray)

front-small-boxset
Revisited – complete new rip (2016) in 24/192 with the Black Bird Gang.
Pay Attention on track four: Sub Bass – take care of your equipement (Amp & Speakers)

Enjoy the beauty, the purity and the sheer “Grandezza” of a perfect recording. Without any doubt, this is sonically and performancing a masterpiece. Made in 1980, the sound (from an unusual venue for the Philadelphia Orchestra, the St. Francis de Sales Church) remains “State Of The Art” 36 years later. It is, arguably, one of the very best recordings of the Philadelphia Orchestra ever made, irrespective of repertoire.

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Erato) Isaac Albeniz – Iberia, Vol. 3, 4 (De Larrocha)

front-small-boxset Many thanks to Jean-Luc for these magnificent pearls
Note: Maybe you miss Vol. 1 & 2? Some years before, the two volumes were called “Iberia” Vol. 1 and 2,  released as single records. Then, years later the two “Iberia” Volumes were integrated in a cycle of four LPs, named Works For Piano (L’Oeuvre Pour Piano) with a different cover.
These recordings are of truly top notch piano playing which undeniably surpasses either of Larrocha’s other two recordings of Iberia because of it’s supreame technical mastery, rhythmic vitality and corloristic wizardry and ease of these fiendishly difficult, yet beautiful works. Complaints about sound quality in this recording are irrelevant, especially since it is not that pronounced. Besides, one who listens to the great recordings of Cortot, Rachmaninov, Hoffman, etc. knows the value of the actual performance over the sound quality.

HD-Vinyls 24/192 (Hyperion) Modest Mussorgsky – Pictures At An Exhibition (Wills)

front-small-boxsetAs far as I know there if only one adaption for organ of the most beloved classical work in the world, Mussorgsky’s “Pictures”, that everyone  should own: that one by Jean Guillou. Unfortunately only available on CD.
I stumbled by accident on this vinyl, one fine day, when I was looking for something different on the web and bought it in 1 second. I hoped not to be disappointed. Indeed it is a different but also phantastic adaption by Arthur Wills at the organ of the Ely Cathedral.

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Decca) Ludwig van Beethoven – Symphony No. 9 (Ansermet)

front-small-boxset Many thanks to Jean-Luc for this pearl
What is truly amazing to me is the fact that this version was originally recorded in 1959 (!!!). While the strings might seem a bit thin in places to some, the basses and woodwinds really shine in this recording. Ansermet’s crisp, up-tempo interpretation of the score is one of the best ever, in my estimation, and not to be missed. Ansermet delivers a lean, muscular performance of the ‘Ninth’ with a slow movement of cool beauty. The youthful choir adds real zest to the finale and aided by a quartet of star soloists (this was Joan Sutherland’s first recording for Decca) Ansermet gives the choral finale real nobility.

Orchestra: L’Orchestre De La Suisse Romande
Conductor: Ernest Ansermet
