Rare HD-Vinyl (Mono) 96/24 (DGG) Igor Stravinsky – Le Sacre Du Printemps (Fricsay)

front-small-boxset
Many thanks to Jean-Luc for this rarity
Ferenc Fricsay made possibly one of the most interesting versions of Le Sacre ever made in the whole music story. It ‘s filled of entire conviction and above all profound domain of the discursive and bitter musical language. A notable sonorous richness, steeled modulations, extraordinary interpretative nervous, accurate and precision. The rhythmic obsession is delirious.

It’s been almost two years since I posted anything from the Franklin Mint classical collection. This one is by request.

The Planets is one of my all-time favorite classical works. Breathtaking sound quality, a (mostly) great pressing, and an thrilling performance make this one of the best Planets around.

Highly recommended, whether you’re a Planets fan or not.

HD-Vinyl 96/24 (EMI) Dmitri Shostakovich – Lady Macbeth Of Mtsensk

front-small-boxset
Many thanks to Jean-Luc for this gem
Written between 1930 and 1932, The Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk was one of the most brilliant achievements of Shostakovich’s long career. It was also the work that got him into trouble with Stalin. When the Soviet leader attended a performance in Moscow in 1936, almost two years after the opera’s acclaimed Leningrad premiere, he personally ordered the publication of a scathing article in Pravda (“Muddle Instead of Music”), unleashing a ruthless campaign to reduce the arts in Soviet Russia to a state of dogmatic subservience to the regime…..

HD-Vinyl 96/24 (Melodiya/EMI) Sergei Rachmaninov – The Bells (Kondrashin)

front-small-boxset
Many thanks to Jean-Luc for this rarity
This recording of Rachmaninov’s The Bells is excellent. An admirer had suggested Rachmaninov set Edgar Allan Poe’s poem, The Bells, to music. Poe’s poem dealt with four important life experiences as expressed in the sounds of different bells (silver – youth, gold – marriage, brass – war, iron – mourning). Rachmaninov set them as a four-movement choral piece, wonderfully capturing the different sounds and moods.
