HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Telefunken) Johann Sebastian Bach – Three Sonatas For Flute And Cembalo (Nicolet, Richter)

front-small-boxset
Thank you very much Jean-Luc

If you’ve wandered here, you’re an Aurèle Nicolet fan. You can’t get enough of his recordings, think his playing has a unique beauty, and are thrilled to find out about the existence of this recording, but also frustrated to contemplate the fact that you will probably never find a copy for yourself. BWV 1020 is only hardly to find because the origin of J.S. Bach is questionable. Nice, that this recording still exists!

HD-Vinyl (Mono) 24/96 (Thorofon) Karlrobert Kreiten In Memoriam – Brahms, Chopin, Kreiten, Schoeck, Strauss

front-small-boxset
Thank you Trottar for this important historical document
Karlrobert Kreiten was a German pianist, though holding Dutch citizenship his entire life due to his Dutch father. He was seen by Wilhelm Furtwängler and others as one of the most talented young pianists in Germany. Born in Bonn, his German mother was the classical singer Emmy Kreiten, née Liebergesell, who sang under the stage name Emmy Kreiten-Barido. His Dutch father Theo Kreiten, was a composer, concert pianist, and writer. The Kreiten family originated in the area of the Lower Rhineland, along the current Dutch-German border. He made his debut at the age of eleven with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A major in a live broadcast. He was educated in Berlin by Claudio Arrau.

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (CBS) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Sinfonia Concertante, Exultate Jubilate (Szell)

front-small-boxset

The ‘Sinfonia Concertante’ in E flat for violin and viola, K364, is an iconic work for many Mozart lovers, and arguably the greatest music he wrote in Salzburg. Yet, frustratingly, we know nothing about its origins. Apart from a sketch for the first-movement cadenza, the autograph has disappeared. Neither Mozart nor any of his contemporaries ever mentioned the work. It seems fair to assume that, inspired by the sinfonie concertanti he had encountered in Paris and Mannheim, he composed it, in summer or autumn 1779, for himself to play with the Salzburg court Konzertmeister Antonio Brunetti. But this remains guesswork.

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (EMI) Camille Saint-Saens – Piano Concerti 2 & 4 (Collard, Previn)

front-small-boxset
Many thanks to our friend Jean-Luc for this beauty
Featuring the superb piano stylings of renowned French Pianist Jean-Phillippe Collard.
Saint Saëns, acclaimed for his sense of drama and ability to evoke mystery in his compositions, crafted five piano concertos over the course of his life, though only No. 2 garnered commercial success.Camille Saint-Saens’ sense of drama, his lyric runs, all make this listening experience highly recommended. I am fascinated by the way Saint-Saens creates rich variations of his themes as he takes us from movement to movement. Saint-Saens has the ability to develop ethereal melodies and variations on themes that are hypnotic and mystical. His piano runs are pushed for dramatic effect. The creative and amusing variations of his themes are pleasant and amusing.
