Beethoven, Bruno Walter ‎– Symphony No. 6 In F Major, Op. 68 (Pastorale) {Analogue Productions; 2LP, 45rpm, 200g, Remaster; 24-96} + 16-44

Bruno Walter helped shape the very essence of interpretive style among conductors. Walter’s rendition of Beethoven’s sixth symphony is perhaps the greatest ever recorded — his reading of the score comes off sounding like a piece of literature or poetry, but that is a great thing and perfectly blends with the music to create a benchmark recording.

Written in 1808, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F Major (“Pastoral”), Op. 68, is deemed one of the most influential by the famed composer. Unlike the vast majority of assumed names by which his works have become known, Beethoven directed from the very outset that his sixth symphony be titled “Pastoral Symphony,” or a recollection of country life. It was a musical approach to the forces of nature that inspired Beethoven.

Super HD-Vinyls 24/192 (Telarc) Ludwig van Beethoven – The 5 Piano Concerti (Serkin/Ozawa)

Dedicated to Trottar, Jean-Luc …and our friend Bob
may he still be among us 🙁

Sometime life never helps you. Even, when you think, you have the Beethoven’s Concerti performed by the best pianists ever lived/living, such like Brendel, Pollini, Benedetti-Michelangeli, Kempff, Backhaus, Arrau, Katchen and others… and hardly you can admit another more in your private league, then it happens. And you think, how fool must I have been all the time, for not have discovered that treasure in time. So happened to me with Serkin.
Welcome, Signor Rodolfo!

HD-Vinyl 24/192 (Archiv) Johann Sebastian Bach – Organ Works: Toccatas & Fugues (Koopman)

(An angry review from amazon – not my words (at least, not all this guy says is wrong)
After years of listening to almost plodding unimaginative endlessly legato French and American styles of ruining Bach’s organ music – music barely able to breathe, it’s refreshing to hear someone who can use staccato, marcato and ornamentation and play with panache and passion, and give this grand music the grand sound and life it deserves. So what about odd trills and a dropped pedal. Go back to Karl Richter, Marie Claire Alain or E. Power Biggs if you want to hear some flubs, and even Peter Hurford on occasion – a far more imaginative player than most but still far short of Koopman – misses a few. Buy this disk, and give any other performance of these pieces a comparison with any other celebrated organist and you’ll hear what I mean. Compare only Koopman’s elegantly ornamented interpretation of the Adagio from the Toccata, Adagio, and Fugue, and you’ll immediately hear it.

Pay Attention!

HD-Vinyl 24/192-96 & Redbook (DGG) New Year’s Concert 1980 (Maazel)

Many thanks to Dagote for this classic!
The Vienna Philharmonic is one of my favorite orchestras, if only because they play the music of the Johann Strauss dynasty as well as no other orchestra in the world. I often get the impression that this music was written and arranged especially for this orchestra with its wonderful wind instruments sound.

For many years, Willi Boskovsky led the Vienna Philharmonics during the famous New Year’s concerts. He, and the great Vienna Philharmonics of which he served as concertmaster for forty years, thoroughly assimilated the essence of the Strauss idiom. All of the most famous waltzes by Johann Strauss I & II are included on this box. Also some of the finest waltzes by his talented brother, Joseph.
