A1 Bizet – Fantasy on ‘Carmen’
A2 Sarasate – Zigeunerweisen
B1 Saint-Saens – Havanaise
B2 Saint-Saens – Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso

Some violinists enrapture their audience with their purity of tone, others with their warm timbre, or their amazing technical virtuosity. Pablo de Sarasate y Navascuéz was one of the very few violinists who combined all these merits, and in addition was a composer in his own right. The most famous of his 50 works are Zigeunerweisen, based on traditional gypsy folklore and the fiendishly difficult Carmen Fantasy. And what better proof is there than Saint-Saëns’s Rondo capriccioso that it is perfectly possible to unite high-spirited joyfulness with a minor key. As the name suggests, his Havanaise is filled with the melodies and colourful rhythms of Spain: no wonder this piece is known as “the violinists’ warhorse”.

  1. Privet, my friend Racha!
Just turned 50 the other day, spend two weeks in Goa.& There , far away from home i understood vividly how much i love European Culture and first of all european music ❗ My family presented me a new Yamaha piano.. so happy 😆
Best regards to you, and thanks a lot for your HQ-rips!!!

    • Hi Hi my Fedorych…..great, you play piano? I learned it as child + singing. Both gone lost: my voice as i was 11 and piano play as i started to find girls very VERY interesting 8)

BTW, happy birthday, my big boy….this summer (july 12th) i will be 54, my wife 2 days later 53…life is good to me, life made me a music lover (instead of collector of beetles, for example).

I think, Mr. Whatever will be soon ready with all his uploads, so i hope to come and post here often…the last months i started to post in another blog (rock, jazz, prog, few classical).

      Take care.

  2. There must be a technical problem with links 2 & 3(impossible to download).Thank you so much for your impeccable work with all your efforts!!

    • George, me too, i get the notice “There is a temporary problem with accessing this file. Our technical team is resolving the problem right now.”

simply, try later or tomorrow again…

  3. Thanks for this, shamefully I don’t have any recordings of Mr Ricci on my hard drive so I’m putting that right by downloading this recording right now.

  4. Hi there,
i am a professional Classic Piano Player and i have the original Decca first pressing, and what can I say after Downloading and playing, I prefer my Vinyl.
    Thanks again for your work

  5. Thank you Rach for this beautiful recording. Ruggierio Ricci is one of the all time great violinists. He doesn’t try to toe the line playing the same interpretation taught in music schools. He plays with natural flamboyance.
