This is by far, the rarest and most expensive item I have ever shared here on boxset.

Test pressings are usually limited to 20-25 copies. They’re given to the artists/producers/etc to check things before doing a full press run – the very first copies produced. Occasionally, they will contain anomalies and end up being scrapped. More often than not, however, they are pristine with phenomenal sound. That is the case here.

Werner Haas was a German pianist especially known for his interpretations of French repertory, particularly the works of Debussy and Ravel. He was better known in Europe than in the Americas, where he never performed live. His many admirers assert that had his life not been tragically cut short, he would likely have achieved recognition as one of the finest pianists of his time.

Since being bitten by “the Mahler bug,” I’ve been doing a lot of research.

Just about everything I’ve read said that this is the best performance of Mahler’s 3rd Symphony. This is new music to me, so I can’t make any comparisons yet, But I will say this. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The performance is exciting and the sound quality is stunning. Very highly recommended.

As always, if anyone has requests for other titles in this set, please add them to the comments or PM me directly.
