While I have heard innumerable performances of this concerto over the years, none, repeat none, matches Janis’s for dazzling technique and interpretation. The sound quality on the LP to this day is astonishing. There are only a handful of recordings that I would take to the fictional desert island, but Janis with Dorati interpreting the Rach 3 is one of them. Highest possible recommendation. – William Mitchell,

  1. Thanks Steve another Gem from Jean Luc, whats the deal with Jean Luc? He has the most incredible classical collection in the planet, Congrats to you both!!!!

    • And what about the 80,000 records of Francescan Broadcast ? :)))
More seriously all merit for Steve who did a huge job on this old noisy vinyl !

      • Thanks, Alf, for the one line exposé of Jean-Luc, our generous, beneficent benefactor. I’ve got to borrow Shakespeare here:
“I can no other answer make but thanks, and thanks, and ever thanks!”
        It bests “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
“Well…yeah – supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Super-cali-fragilistic-expiali-docious can sound quite strange, and can even be difficult to pronounce. Can you pronounce it? Great if you can. But can you explain what you have just said?

“Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” has several meanings. First, the most common use of “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” is when you do not actually know what else to say. You use it to replace any other word in moments when you really can’t think of any better word.

When we separate “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” or divide it into several words, here is what we get: super-cali-fragilistic-expiali-docious. “Super” is the word that is known to all of us, so there is no need to explain it. “Cali” describes something beautiful, while “fragilistic” stands for delicacy. “Expiali” can be other expression for “atone”, and “docious” can mean submissive, adaptable, childlike, easygoing, willing, usable, ductile, gentle, manageable, soft, or humble.
However, what all those words mean when put together into one long word? The meaning probably has something to do with virtues like intellectuality and beauty.

In popular speech, it can mean “wonderful” or “delightful”. However, why would you bother to say “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”, when you can just say “great” or “wonderful”? Well, everyone has his own reasons!

  2. Hey Steve,
I like Jean Luc’s intercontinental supply house.
Very good job. This is a beautiful job of Rach-3 also.
    Thanks, man.
