HD-Vinyl 24/192 (Philips) WAM/LvB – Violin Concerto no. 5/Violin Romances (Szeryng)

Mozart’s violin concertos, although written when he was only 19, are among his finest works. And no violinist is more suited to do do justice to these masterpieces than Henryk Szeryng. Szeryng — although not as famous as some others — was one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century. Although he excelled in a wide range of repertoire — from Vivaldi through Sibelius — Szeryng’s beautiful sweet tone and elegant performance style were especially effective in the performance of Mozart. No other violinist I’ve heard excels him in this repertoire. He was the consummate Mozart violinist. Highly recommended.

Ripping Infos

If You hear some clicks and pops here and there, Who cares?
Id rather have a few light anomalies instead of destroying the music.
Enjoy the music, not the ticks & pops.
I tend more and more, in the last time, to de-click with an automatic setting between 0.7 and 1.2 so you can say, my rips are like half rough rips.

  • Software: iZotope RX 4 Advanced, Adobe Audition CS 5.5, Twisted Wave 1.9
  • Very light de-clicking with iZotope, significant clicks manually removing, no de-noising
  • DR-Analisys before converting to Flac
  • Converting Wave -> Flac: Twisted Wave 1.9
  • Artwork: Sony Alpha 350, Epson Perfection V750 Pro, Photoshop CS 5.5

  1. I double checked to be sure I was on the right recording:

Mozart is stunning, Szeryng exquisite, The New Philharmonia perfect, and the over all the sound is uniquely clear, spacious an just flat out gorgeous.
I don’t know what else to say except it tastes wonderful, excites the appetite for more, and except for the wish:” it would never end,” it is extremely satisfying leaving a sense of delight to the soul.
Alf, I do not think this comment is over the top. This recording is great stuff. Danke; Thank you immensely.

  2. Thank you, Rach,

The 2 romances were recorded a few days before Queensday (30 april 1973) in Amsterdam. I was there and remember it well. It was one of the two great performances during the Easter holidays on friday. I stayed the whole week in Amsterdam and now I live there. It’s like I can still hear the echo of the Concertgebouw again.

  3. Bob´s comment says it all, you can never have enough Mozart. His music has more of an emotional impact on me than that of other composers. Thanks a million for this treasure.
