HD-Vinyl 24/96 (DGG) Franz Schubert – Piano Works for two & four hands (Elena & Emil Gilels)

Thank you Jean-Luc for this great recordings
The Schubert Fantasy is deeply stirring and perhaps the best piece for two pianos ever written and ever played. And of course Emil Gilels was one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. He plays the Fantasy with his daughter Elena, who was herself a renowned pianist too. The interplay between Emil Gilels and his daughter is just superb. The duet between the equal partners is so well executed that at times the piano(s) are just “there”. The recording is, despite its age, superb. I believe that it is most unlikely that there is a better recording of this work. It is a great recording.

  1. Lovely playing on this recording and the piano is very well recorded here. I’m not surprised by the DR16 rating. Watch those speakers in the quiet passages as Gilels suddenly erupts! 🙂
Another fine Rip from you Alf. Thanks to J-L for the disc 😀
