Many thanks to Lemarquis for this fine gem
All 3 pieces on this disc are well played and recorded. The warhorse K.545 sounds fresh and clean here – the Salomon Quartet sounds light footed and wonderfully transparent. There is plenty of juice here. Hogwood’s rendition of the Notturno For Four Orchestras, K.286, is stunning beautiful, and is hands down the best version I’ve heard on record. The wind parts are captured vividly and the dialogue between the four orchestras is extremely well done. Many recordings of K.286 have problems with dynamics and space, but here you get the sense of an ample soundstage, in which the more distant forces seem quite distant, while those more immediate are much closer. It’s a delicate balance, and Hogwood succeeds where others have failed…..
