HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Decca/London) Dmitri Shostakovich – Symphony No. 5 (Haitink)

front-small-boxsetI’m no musicologist, but I think this is a remarkable recording of Shostakovich’s 5th symphony. This one has overall better production than Bernstein’s New York Philharmonic recording under Sony. Plus, Bernstein tends to conduct under some sort of emotional influence, Haitink does not. But that’s just my humble opinion. All in all, this is an “edge of your seat” kind of recording; loud, aggressive, and wicked! Thank you Maestro Haitink, Royal Concertgebouworkest, and the DECCA team.

Ripping Infos

If You hear some clicks and pops here and there, Who cares?
Id rather have a few light anomalies instead of destroying the music.
Enjoy the music, not the ticks & pops.
I tend more and more, in the last time, to de-click with an automatic setting between 0.7 and 1.2 so you can say, my rips are like half rough rips.

  • Software: iZotope RX 4 Advanced, Adobe Audition CS 5.5, Twisted Wave 1.9
  • Very light de-clicking with iZotope, significant clicks manually removing, no de-noising
  • DR-Analisys before converting to Flac
  • Converting Wave -> Flac: Twisted Wave 1.9
  • Artwork: Sony Alpha 350, Epson Perfection V750 Pro, Photoshop CS 5.5

  1. Thank you very much, Dear Rach!
It’s unbelievable, because the only reasonable and listenable interpretations of this ‘unhuman’ music of Shostakovich symphonies (this No. 5 is among the composer’s best works, alongside with Nos. 1 and 7) are made by the greatest Bernard Haitink (one of my favorite conductors, indeed), IMHO!
I’ve heard them in CD format, and you give us an opportunity to listen this music from vinyl. I could hardly expected that! My dreams came true!

  2. No olvidemos la Sinfonía No. 10.
Y Karajan en su segunda grabación es una referencia.
Tengo esta versión de Haitink en CD. Gracias por el aporte en vinilo.
