HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Melodyia) Dmitri Shostakovich – Symphony No. 8 (Kondrashin)

Many thanks to our friend Jean-Luc for another marvellous Shostakovich
This Symphony has always been regarded the centrepiece of a trilogy, beginning with the Fifth Symphony and ending with the Tenth. Written and accomplished in the brief of two months and just and few days, the score is further of what we might label a patriotic event or worse still a heartfelt homage in memory of Leningrad’ s fallen victims. As a matter of fact, the same day of the premiere on November 4th 1943, Ilya Ehrenburg had the bold courage to state and we cite “I had suddenly heard the voice of the ancient chorus in Greek tragedy”.
