HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Philips) Ludwig van Beethoven – Missa Solemnis (Sir Colin Davis)

Many thanks to a special guy from the Michigan Lake for this vinyl-donation
This performance of the Missa Solemnis Op. 123 is inspired, rich of sensitiveness, deep, well balanced, but vivid and not obvious. Colin Davis smoothly matches the global vision and the richness of details.
R.I.P. well, Maestro!

I concur with the Penguin Guide To Classical CDs that this is one of the finest performances of Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis”. Davis does an elegant job leading his soloists and orchestra; the Credo is certainly the highlight of this performance. Yet Davis’ tempi may seem a bit sluggish to those accustomed to performances conducted by the likes of Gardiner and Harnoncourt.

  1. I take nothing away from Sir Colin Davis; he was great.
But Rach, your “art” is a great tribute to him in this piece alone.

    Again, thanks a lot.
