HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Supraphon) Béla Bartók – Violin Concerto No. 2 (Gertler/Ančerl)

Many thanks to Jean-Luc for this precious vinyl
Andre Gertler was a close friend of Bartok and between 1925 and 1938 joined Bartok for a long sequence of joint concerts featuring many first performances of Bartok’s compositions. Clearly the two men had a close and sustained artistic relationship and Gertler’s empathy with Bartok’s vision cannot be missed in this recording. The performance is less indulgent than many others in terms of maintaining steady and forward moving tempos. At the same time the approach to the melodic line is more lyrical and the aggressive effect in certain passages as delivered by other players is therefore lessened. The last movement brings a clearer sense of the ‘dance’ element. In total, this performance simply feels ‘right’ in a way that often eludes other recordings.
