HD-Vinyls 24/192 (Decca) Giacomo Puccini – Turandot (Sutherland/Pavarotti)

This is not the rip from 2010 and not from 2012 but a complete new rip (Oct. 2015) in 24/192
This is the best „Turandot“ you can find in this world, my friends. Maestro Mehta and the fabulous dream-team Sutherland/Pavarotti are not of this galaxy. Add the great and wonderful voice of Ghiaurov and an angelic Caballè, perfect choir, a speedy drive, perfect tempi and intonations….i could continue ’til Xmas……not at last the stunning audiophile sound.
You‘ll never find a better „Turandot“ – Sutherland was ideal for roles like the cruel chinese princess and Pavarotti was born only for the role of Calaf. Finally, Maestro Mehta was born only to create this “work of the century”.

Joan Sutherland IS the vocal sensation of the century. And she amazes all in this recording as a true dramatic soprano. The gorgeous voice, opulent in tone and gigantic in size is just unbelievable. All notes are shot out of the diva’s throat like cannonballs. I am fortunate enough to have heard the great Prima Donna in her prime, and let me say she must be heard in person to be believe. Supremely the vocal miracle of all time. As Turandot, she is not even challenged, in terms of voice, she absolutely soars above the orchestra and chorus with no strain whatsoever. Vocally, no one can touch her. But she also offers amazing fire in this recording, singing with much more passion and sensuous tone than all the other Turandots combined…INCLUDING Birgit Nilsson and Maria Callas. As Prince Calaf, Pavorotti is ideal. At the time of this recording, Pavorotti had one of the most pure beautiful tenors before the public, and like Sutherland, he has ALL the high notes. Nessum Dorma was his highlight. Caballe is ideal as Liu, she uses her perfect bel canto technique to demonstate some of the most awesome pianissimo singing I’ve ever heard. She is simply a Liu to make you cry. The bonus here, of course, is the glorious music of Puccini. There is not one boring second in this over two hours of magnificent music. The conductor Zubin Mehta, with the help of a PERFECT recording, painted a wonderfully colorful and opulent GRAND OPERA. This is Puccini’s MASTERPIECE!! And Puccini, in his wildest dreams would not have imagined a better cast or performance. This is one of the greatest recording of our time.

P.S. To hear the most amazing display of coloratura singing ever recorded. I give my highest rating to Joan Sutherland’s “The Art of the Prima Donna”. You will hear vocal miracles in that cd. Definitely the most breathtaking singing ever recorded. You won’t believer your ears, what Dame Joan Sutherland does in that recording is superhuman!!!

Ripping Info

If You hear some clicks and pops here and there, Who cares?
Id rather have a few light anomalies instead of destroying the music.
Enjoy the music, not the ticks & pops.
I tend more and more, in the last time, to de-click with an automatic setting between 0.7 and 1.2 so you can say, my rips are like half rough rips.

  • Software: iZotope RX 4 Advanced, Adobe Audition CS 5.5, Twisted Wave 1.9
  • Very light de-clicking with iZotope, significant clicks manually removing, no de-noising
  • DR-Analisys before converting to Flac
  • Converting Wave -> Flac: Twisted Wave 1.9
  • Artwork: Sony Alpha 350, Epson Perfection V750 Pro, Photoshop CS 5.5

  1. Words are not enough for these two amazing recordings by La Stupenda that you are offering this past day since her death. They are truly the best studio recordings ever of these operas, thank you so much!!!
A great tribute to this exceptional artist.

  2. Dimitris….I loved Joan on my knees, all my life, since I heard her on records for the first time (about 40 years ago).

A really great artist like no one other !

    R.I.P. Joan….

    • On vinyl productions of operatics, there was/is never a track list, simply because there are no tracks. You can take the tracking list from the CDs and split manually by yourself, if you want. I have no time…otherwise, I don’t care of tracks – when I start listen to a opera, normally I stop after it has ended 🙂

  3. Hi Rach,

Your belief in “Kai-san” deserves everyone’s highest salute.
I compared this new post with the older version, thought the latter should easily be classified as ‘high-end’, the former certainly is among audiophile grade.
    My stand-ovation. Bravo !!

    • Thank you Tony, indeed the two differencies are the TT, Clearaudio + Denon DL103 Special Edition (formerly Project + Sumiko Evo III) and the new RME Fireface UC.

  4. _Tony_ have reason, the quality of sound is so great and much much more clean than Turandot from Tebaldi and Del Monaco. Is curious but im starting to love “clicks and pops” jajaja as characteristic of vinyl. Few clicks, just few low clicks are lovely. 😉

  5. Thanks, very much, dear friend. It’s espectacular I prefer this version always, for Pavarotti and Sutherland,,,and the apoteosic music…Thanks a lot from Venezuela!!!

  6. Hello,
As usual and first of all, thanks for the music.
When I extract the files from rapidshare, when it comes to part 3, it says “wrong password”.
Do you have any idea why ?
    Thanks in advance.

  7. Very familiar with the CD version so it will be very interesting to compare this higher quality rip. No Opera on Radio 3 tonight for me. Many thanks again.

  8. What a gem, and what spacious sound even on my small computer player. I lost the 2012 download on a hard drive that just up and died, so this is a luxurious replacement. Pavarotti’s squillo is so much more beautiful than Lauri Volpi and/or Filippeschi. Yo are absolutely right; this is a fantastically beautiful recording.

    Thank you signor.

    • You know Bob, I love many singers on my knees and so, once, I tried to bring to my (then) GF the beauty of other voices…..Del Monaco, Gigli, Björling, Domingo, Tucker and so on, but she loved only Super-Luciano. Once she said, what caused in me a great smile and I never again tried to let her know other tenors: “Alf, they are all great, of course, but when Luciano starts to sing, is like the sun comes out of the clouds.”
