I have several recordings of Scheherazade from various orchestras and various years (60’s, 70’s, etc). This is one of my two or three favorite versions; Dutoit and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra just really capture the feeling of the music.

The subtle, coloristic and imaginative interpretation perfects the setting: a music story about serene, other horrifying, stories being told by beautiful Scheherazade. Unlike in some other interpreatations (especially Reiner’s) that focus on the stories themselves and overpower the voice of Scheherazade, in this one her presence can be felt and her voice heard.

  1. I’m not sure what you did with La Flute Enchantee with Lombard and Te Kanawa. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed what I have of it.
I just wanted to let you know that my purpose in seeking the Discography info and alerting you to the dead track on disc 2 was to be helpful to you. I don’t know how many people you have working for you, but your blog certainly puts out a lot of stuff. Bravo, sir.

L’ho postato 3-4 settimane fa

  3. Hello Rachmaninov:

    I call your name from the last post;

Will you at least give the courtesy to tell me if you will repost the Te Kanawa-Lombard La Flute Enchantee?

    • Bob…sorry, i answered last night, but when i deleted the “Flute” maybe the system decided not to send my answer to you. I wrote, that my 2nd CD also misses the first track. I don’t know what happened. These CDs i made for me many years ago, rips from vinyl of a friend of mine. I can’t reach this Flute-recordings anymore, sorry.

  4. No no intendevo altri.

  5. Rachmaninov,
    RE: La Flute Enchantee

What you gave us was not perfect, but I’ve scoured the internet trying to find a set of the original LPs by Barclay from France. I could find nothing.
Gruberova’s Queen of the Night Aria is gorgeous; Hoffman’s Tamino is quite good for a voice like his, and Te Kanawa is also good. I’m glad I got what you offered. Others may as well. Just give them a Caveat about the flaw, and let them choose. Just a suggestion.
I thank you so much for what I’ve gotten from you.

  6. Thanks Rach, wonderful work as always

Ciao
