From the booklet:
The outstanding success of this celebrated ballet score by Maurice Ravel at its first complete performance in Paris on June 8, 1913 was due – at least in part – to its conductor, the young Pierre Monteux. On the threshold of a great career as a symphonic conductor, Monteux received worldwide acclaim because of his understanding of this luminous score. The recording of this performance by the London Symphony Orchestra and the chorus of the Royal Opera House, Covert Garden, London, has been a classic even since it’s first release in 1959.

Note: Due to the extreme quiet passages in this performance (especially on side 2), you may hear an occasional anomaly here and there. These minor imperfections were reduced as much as possible without affecting the music.
Another Note: There was a minor glitch in Track 6. Links to a fixed file (24/96 and 16/44) are below.
