New Rip, reposted, now with FF links
This recording of Aida is perhaps not the best available, but captures Tebaldi and Del Monaco at their prime. They sound glorious here. And lets not forget the great Ebe Stignani.

The first time I heard this Aida – it was on radio, many many years ago – Iwas the greatest fan of Del Monaco since I was 10…..and during listening to the radio I tried to recognize that voice and I thought: „hmmm, it sound a little like a very young Del Monaco, but he is a dramatic and verismo tenor, not a belcantist – it cannot be Mario“.
Epic error !
At the time, I didn’t know, that Mario started his carrer in the late 40ies with verismo and belcanto too.
At the end of the broadcasting I heard those magic names „Renata Tebaldi…Mario Del Monaco“ – OMG, I was in paradise.
I started the search for this Box-Set, but it was out of print, impossible to get it. Later I refused to get it on CD….I wanted those damn vinyls.
At that time there was no internet, no ebay, etc….there was nothing but records-shops…
However, through all the time, I „forgot“ this Aida, until 2001 (I was records pro seller on ebay) and I remembered again of this Aida performance. I looked for it on all ebay nations for many years and finally, few years later, I had it, together with other 40-45 opera sets – all together for only about 50 $.
By the way….this is the 1st recording that Del Monaco made for Decca in 1952.
The records are very old and they were played very often, so forgive me, if you hear from time to time some light noises…Idid my very best to restore the sound.
