Four Steinways – One Hamburg Philharmonic – Three Keyboard Virtuosos – One former Chancellor of West Germany. It’s a potent mixture. It could have been one of the travesties of recording history. Happily, this disc has never gone out of circulation (recorded 1985) and the reasons are self-evident.
EDIT Nov./9th/15: read just few minutes ago that health condition of former Chancellor Schmidt (96) has dramatically changed in the last hours. I’m afraid he’s goin’ to go 🙁
EDIT Nov./10th/15 Helmut Schmidt died today !

Helmut Heinrich Waldemar Schmidt
was a German Social Democratic politician who served as Chancellor of West Germany from 1974 to 1982.
It’s no coincidence that this recording is so amazingly well made. The four pianists really studied the score, and were good friends (the whole story comes with the CD). These performers were really into making this the best way possible. Friendship took talent into a greater sphere and made the concertos have that sense of “divine unification” that in Bach’s entire work qualifies.
If you like keyboard music, piano, or Bach, you are out of excuses. Get this! If you are a purist, let me tell you this was played with extreme care and little romantic influence, as well as making good use of the piano in the sake of making a distinction in every of the work’s parts.

If You hear some clicks and pops here and there, Who cares?
Id rather have a few light anomalies instead of destroying the music.
Enjoy the music, not the ticks & pops.
I tend more and more, in the last time, to de-click with an automatic setting between 0.7 and 1.2 so you can say, my rips are like half rough rips.
