This album is a selection of early music from a part of Europe seldom included in collections of this type, and they are unusual, lively, delightful pieces, each one quite different from the others in texture and tone, performed on instruments of the time that are no longer familiar to us. The variety and innovation you hear is captivating.

The really outstanding feature of this album, though, is the EXTRAORDINARY quality of the sound. I have seldom heard such mind-boggling purity and depth. Every instrument is focused and clear, its particular and distinctive timbre perfectly isolated. It’s as if you are sitting with the ensemble in a small, idealized performance chamber, totally surrounded by rich, gorgeous sound.

This recording is an astounding sensory delight.

  1. As ever, sterling stuff Rach. I’ve been feeling guilty this week for not posting to say thanks. It feels awful seeing your posts — with all the hard work and decades of skill involved — go past with “0 comments”. Come on folks, I know it’s summer holidays and all, but we should be collectively embarrassed to see such great work go by without even so much as a single comment.

    • Thank you my friend….you know i started twice to animate people to write something…..even only thanks. But i can understand that my rips are only for a little row of “specialists”….
No problem: as long as i have fun i continue to post, but i agree with you…is a pity not to have the time to write a word

    • By the way, I said a lot of thankyous that were not published because of low internet speed… I would send the comment, but the browser then behaved like it was loading something forever and my comment VERY often would end up not sent. But I think I found a way around that.

      • And Rachmnaninov, forgive some of us that has been not thankful enough. Human being are very fallible. Please dont quit on us ..! 🙂

  2. Hello Rachmaninov, great one as usually, thanks! (Yes, unfortunately I have been long time away from this wonderful Whatever & Rach’s World) By the way, one question, I have just seen your rip of this vinyl posted somewhere else not even naming you as the original source (something always polite to do to say the least but certainly a MUST when it’s a rare vinyl as this one). They uploaded it using wupload and filesonic (no, in this case it’s not even using your links). I remembered the Avax affaire but I don’t want to make a mistake, perhaps you already know and there is no problem so have a look and sorry for the trouble if it turns out to be nothing: http://www.clasicsound.com/2011/08/harmonia-mundiclemencic-consort.html

    • Thank you very much, Sergi….indeed, this blog was unknown to me. I’ve seen, this blogger has taken several of my posts, sometimes he writes “source: boxset.ru” but often there is no mentioning.
He takes posts from all over the net, grouped on his blog….
I wonder if he answers to my message.

  3. un sincero grazie
mi interessano molto queste danze e canti popolari che poi sono stati saccheggiati dai maggiori compositori.
    così vedo le origini.

    grazie rach

  4. Nice to see some old posts resurrected. I have never heard this before but I look forward to being educated and of course the outstanding quality of the rip. Many thanks for your work and skill and for sharing.

  5. Thank you Rachmaninov. The only constant I have found to undercurrent this blog is the firm attitude of its admins to behave as David Copperfields to us classical lovers. This LP, I can tell you that, was so much unexpected as if you were to actually pop a rabbit up out of this pages. Bravo ! Can clap enough, so that’s mainly why I try, unsuccesfully to be epic in this comment…
