Super-Audiophile HD-Vinyls 24/192 (Bis) La Spagna, Music From The XV, XVI, And XVII Centuries (Atrium Musicæ De Madrid)

This is one of the most beautiful recording in the milky way and very hard to find. Enjoy! Audiophile factor: absurdly high!
If you loved my rip of “La Folia”, you will run crazy and take hostages to get this double-LP. But you won’t find it. Don’t ask, how much I payed for this one.

Setting off on a sonic journey through Europe, Gregorio Paniagua and his acclaimed ensemble Atrium Musicæ de Madrid took the famous theme known as La Spagna, used widely by composers across Europe for several centuries, as the starting point in their quest to bring to life the many and varied old scores that used this themes. In their recording, the ensemble used a huge range of instruments, from clavicytherium (a vertical harpsichord) to a simple plastic cup, and the vivid performances and no less vivid recording enchanted both early music fans and audiophiles. This is the first pressing of this legendary 1980 recording.

This recording contains 48 versions of an old Italian (!) melody that went under the name of “La Spagna” and became popular in all Europe in the course of the 16th century. Gregorio Paniagua has collected the pieces from various manuscripts in European libraries and printed editions (such as the Cancionero Musical de Palacio and the Buxheimer Orgelbuch) and arranged them for a vast collection of “period” instruments. The original music is not notated, at least in the majority of cases, for any particular instruments, so Paniagua has felt free to put together a collection for his seven-man ensemble which surely burst the bounds of anything you could have heard in the 16th or 17th centuries, especially considering the fact that on some tracks he uses percussion “instruments” that are highly non-conventional – a whip, an oil jar, “bits and pieces” and, last but not least, a plastic cup! The resulting sound is, indeed, delightful, although not, of course, “authentic”, some of the combinations sounding to me highly unlikely (such as using a clavcytherium, a spinet and a harpsichord together, or the use of a violoncello d’amore on a number of pieces where there is already at least one viola da gamba or viol). The music is extremely pleasant listening which can also help listeners to appreciate the sounds of these old instruments as well as the rhythm of this renaissance “hit”.

  1. Ciao Alf, non avevo ancora potuto soffermarmi sugli ultimi tre post. Un grazie che vale per tutti e tre: tre esplorazioni nel barocco, pura musica, pura forma.
Hi Alf, I had not been able to detain me around last three posts yet. A thanks that it is worth for everybody and three: three explorations in the Baroque one, pure music, pure form.

  2. Hi all, I am Italian and loved completely Rondo Veneziano. I wonder if anyone has audiophile quality, 96Khz or 192Khz flac of Rondo Veneziano.

Also, is there any one that has any music in the best format possible which is today DSD? I downloaded some music in this format and it is AMAZING. basically is the digital format of super audio compact disc, also called SACD.

    saluti a tutti!

    • Ciao…con rispetto: Rondó Veneziano è semplicemente spazzatura che va bene per supermercati o per ascensori. Non troverai mai di questa roba, da queste parti. Qui si offre solo vera musica, di veri artisti. Provare per credere 😉

  3. Hello, Mr. Rachmaninov.
First of all, thanks for let me in at this incredible Sounds Sanctuary.
Second, I’m trying to unrar this Paniagua’s recording. When I input LaWally password, it back “Incorrect Password”. I suppose that LaWally is the only password and there is no other way to open this file… Don’t know what to do.
    Thank you.
    Keep on rockin’!

    • Right, LaWally (written this way) is the only PW. Maybe you copy and paste? Try to type the PW. I don’t know, what more I could say to help you.

      • Problem solved. There was corrupt files 5 and 8. Re-downloaded and it works. OH MY GOD! Astonishing sound. Superb! Thanks a lot. Cheers from “La Spagna”
