Falla – The Three Cornered Hat (Ansermet, L’Orchestre De La Suisse Romande, Berganza) {ORG; US Reissue, Remaster, 2LP, 45rpm; HiRes}+ Redbook

Cover
.This timeless gem is performed by L’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, conducted by Ernest Ansermet.

This is a performance to be known as ‘one of the greats.’ The composition, Three-Cornered Hat was premiered by Ansermet, and with its lively rhythms, subtle narratives, dynamic development, and vivid contrast and tone-colors, this version is a masterly performance that none other appears able to exceed. The performance illustrates an ethnic taste that is rich in wild beauty in a truly vivid and dynamic way, while highlighting the lyricism of Falla’s music in a sophisticated, uncompromising manner. The solo singing by the young Berganza is also worth listening to.

Super HD-Vinyls 24/192 (RR) Hector Berlioz – Symphonie Fantastique (Kojian)

front-small-boxsetRevisited (now in 192k) with the Black Bird Gang and the AR SP15
This is absolute one of the most splendid and colourful recordings that RR had yet made. Kojian and the Utah symphony deliver a performance that is second to none. And the sound! Can its recording engineer Keith Johnson, or anyone else exceed this? – Must Have –
Audiophile Factor: The highest possible!
Artistic Factor: One of the very best “Fantastique”

Pay attention: side 3 & side 4 are identically despite a little detail: once i read (but don’t remember where) “Dream Of A Witches Sabbath” was recorded using tubular bells and, on the other side, recorded using real church bells. Reference Recordings states on the rear cover that side 3 and side 4 are pressed twice, because the last two pieces of the symphony are the most played by customers, so they did this instead of letting side 4 blank, what their 1st intention was……and, please, take care of your equipment, especially of your speakers.

Elgar, Vaugn Williams – Enigma Variatons, The Wasps, Greensleeves, Kansas City Symphony, Michael Stern (2013) {RR; Half-Speed Master 200g, 45RPM; HiRes} + Redbook

Cover
The universe is not exactly desperate for more recordings of this repertoire, but this one, surprising as it might seem, is pretty excellent. Michael Stern and his Kansas City Symphony take to the music as if to the manner born. The Wasps, here given as the complete suite and not just the overture, is delightful. Perhaps the only slight miscalculation in the entire performance is the overly swift March Past of the Kitchen Utensils, which loses some of its comic swagger at Stern’s tempo. Otherwise the overture and (especially) the Ballet and Final Tableau offer pure enjoyment from start to finish. The Fantasia on Greensleeves, un-killable in just about any circumstances, sounds just fine as well.

Audiophile HD-Vinyls 24/192 (Decca) Leo Delibes – Lakmé (Sutherland/Bonynge)

front-small-boxsetRevisited, with the newest toys and in 24/192
Sutherland’s famed diction is much better in French than Italian. She is breath-taking as Lakme. What a vocal wonder! The bell song is “Inhuman”, it’s so awesome. Spectacular high E’s shot out the diva’s mouth like cannonballs, ravishing trills on high B. No one can trill like Sutherland, and she’s the only soprano in history who could trill on a high D-flat.

Revisited with the benefit of Audio Research SP15 and in 24/192.
This is in my eyes (and ears) one of the few cases where the MFSL version is devasting better than the original.

Only a re-up! Whit new archives and links.

You are warned: the bass of these bass pipes will blow you away 😉
Virgil Fox playes on the Rufatti Organ at the Garden Grove Community Church in California. The Artistry of Virgil Fox is evident throughout this recording as in all of his recordings. A beautiful farewell from a great performer and superb human being. I recommend it without reservation. Sensetional and spectacular High-End-Recordings by audiophile label Crystal Clear, whose standards were direct-to-disc recordings of the 1st class on 180g vinyl in a time, where no one thought to offer audiophile recordings on 180g vinyl.

Super HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Philips) Joaquin Rodrigo – Concierto de Aranjuez y Andaluz (Pepe Romero/Los Romeros)

front_small_boxset
A century work – one of the best sounding productions ever !
This is without question the definitive recording of the Concierto de Aranjuez. Every classical records collection should contain this album. Pepe Romero has performed the perfect marriage between technical virtuosity and emotional interpretation. As well, the SMTF Orchestra matches Romero note-for-note making for a truly magical listening experience.

front_small_boxset
This is another audiophile gem with the dream-team Romero/Marriner/Academy.
Why aren’t all music catalogs made of this quality? Anyway. The renditions are musically very satisfying and the works are pretty well-known. You can’t go wrong on these interpretations. Very tastefully treated though. Just one of those discs that I intend to listen to over and over again.

Maestro, Sensei, however you want to say it, Pepe Romero is one of the great artists of our time. Each note is a jewel that he performs with such life that you feel your heart beating to his rhythm. This is the 2nd great Guitar Concerto by blind Rodrigo.
Any devotee of Classical Guitar music, who is not aware of Giuliani’s work, is truly missing something!!! Giuliani sure must have studied Mozart. If you like Mozart (and who doesn’t), you will like Giuliani.

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Philips) J. C. Bach – Six Symphonies Op. 3

front-small-boxset
Finalmente, thanks to our friend Lemarquis I have this again and you can delete the old version in 44/16. Thank you very much, Mr. J. 😀
Johann Christian Bach (1735-1782) is more famously known as “the London Bach” because he spent the latter part of his career in that city. Nevertheless, his symphonies concertantes were composed for Parisian tastes. He wrote well over a dozen works in this genre, and possibly inspired Mozart to compose his more famous symphonies concertantes, one for violin and violin, and the other for four wind instruments. Only a few of them were publishing during Bach’s lifetime. Today, the manuscripts reside in London’s British Library.
