Audiophile HD-Vinyls 96/24 (Philips) Rodrigo/Giuliani – Concierto Madrigal/Guitar Concerto Op. 30 (Angel & Pepe Romero)

front_small_boxset
This is another audiophile gem with the dream-team Romero/Marriner/Academy.
Why aren’t all music catalogs made of this quality? Anyway. The renditions are musically very satisfying and the works are pretty well-known. You can’t go wrong on these interpretations. Very tastefully treated though. Just one of those discs that I intend to listen to over and over again.

Farewell, Maestro Marriner. R.I.P. 🙁

front_small_boxset
This is another audiophile gem with the dream-team Romero/Marriner/Academy.
Maestro, Sensei, however you want to say it, Pepe Romero is one of the great artists of our time. Each note is a jewel that he performs with such life that you feel your heart beating to his rhythm. This is the 2nd great Guitar Concerto by blind Rodrigo.
Any devotee of Classical Guitar music, who is not aware of Giuliani’s work, is truly missing something!!! Giuliani sure must have studied Mozart. If you like Mozart (and who doesn’t), you will like Giuliani.

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Philips) J. C. Bach – Six Symphonies Op. 3

front-small-boxset
Finalmente, thanks to our friend Lemarquis I have this again and you can delete the old version in 44/16. Thank you very much, Mr. J. 😀
Johann Christian Bach (1735-1782) is more famously known as “the London Bach” because he spent the latter part of his career in that city. Nevertheless, his symphonies concertantes were composed for Parisian tastes. He wrote well over a dozen works in this genre, and possibly inspired Mozart to compose his more famous symphonies concertantes, one for violin and violin, and the other for four wind instruments. Only a few of them were publishing during Bach’s lifetime. Today, the manuscripts reside in London’s British Library.

Audiophile HD-Vinyl 24/192 (Klavier) Camille Saint-Saëns – ‘Organ’ Symphony No. 3 (Louis Fremaux)

front-small-boxset
Without a doubt, one of the best performances of SS’ 3rd Symphony
Fremaux’s performance of the “Organ” Symphony is the only version I have ever felt was worthy of mentioning in the same breath as Charles Munch’s famous 1959 RCA recording with the Boston Symphony. What’s more, the Fremaux performance deserves its multiple releases. The interpretation displays energy, zest, excitement, and grace aplenty, with a second-movement Adagio that flows over the listener in soft, warm waves.

Today is my birthday and this is my gift to you all
This is an exceptional performance of a great symphony. The Kansas City Symphony under Michael Stern present one of the finest recordings of Saint-Saens third Symphony available. Both conductor and organist achieve an optimal balance. You would not know this was not one of the top tier orchestras. Fine showcase for the great Casavant organ in Helzberg Hall.

Not the 2011-rip. Revisited (2016) with the Black Bird Gang and the SP15
In the 90s Klavier Records from USA reissued many wonderful recordings from the 60s and 70s that were formerly published by EMI. The records came in strong limited edition on 180 gramm vinyl. This stunning sounding recording let you easily imagine, why EMI records from that era are desperately searched and wanted by collectors worldwide.

Pay Attention on track four: Sub Bass – take care of your equipement (Amp & Speakers)

Enjoy the beauty, the purity and the sheer “Grandezza” of a perfect recording. Without any doubt, this is sonically and performancing a masterpiece. Made in 1980, the sound (from an unusual venue for the Philadelphia Orchestra, the St. Francis de Sales Church) remains “State Of The Art” 36 years later. It is, arguably, one of the very best recordings of the Philadelphia Orchestra ever made, irrespective of repertoire.

High-End HD-Vinyl 24/192 (EMI) Carl Orff – Carmina Burana (Previn)

front-small-boxset
Revisited with the whole Black Bird gang…new rip in 192k from March 2016
Being somewhat of a fanatic about Carmina Burana, I have had occasion to listen to several recordings of these songs…and I own around 10 different versions on vinyl and CDs.
This recording is, without a doubt, the best one there. From the opening of ‘O Fortuna’, where the silence speaks as eloquently as the crash of the music, through the solos of the sorpranos at the end, which makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up, it is so clear and pure, the performance is superb.

HD-Vinyls 96/24 (Teldec) Georg Friedrich Händel – 6 Concerti Grossi & Water Music (Harnoncourt)

front_small_boxset
Reposted, now with FF links
One can so easily forget that one is listening to music when this recording is playing, because the emotional heart of it so transparently shines through. There is no separation of the recording into its technical and other qualities. It stands whole and pure. That said, if one really wants to, one may bend an ear to the sound quality itself, and be just as entranced. There is a warmth and a harmonious sheen, if you will, that simply brings joy.

Audiophile HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Mercury) Bela Bartok – The Wooden Prince (Dorati)

front-small-boxsetMany thanks to our friend Jean-Luc for this gem
Antal Dorati really has this one wrapped up–as a great ballet conductor, Hungarian, and friend of the composer, he brings a special authority to Bartók’s allegorical ballet The Wooden Prince. This is Bartók at his most Romantically evocative, with orchestral writing full of shimmering textures and exotic sounds. This was the first stereo recording of the complete ballet, and it remains one of the finest, both in sound and performance. — David Hurwitz

Audiophile HD-Vinyls 24/192 (Mercury) Bela Bartok – Dance Suite, Deux Portraits, Mikrokosmos (Dorati)

front-small-boxset Many thanks to our friend Jean-Luc for this marvellous record
Yet for my money this disc is “where it’s at,” to use street slang. Dorati gives us stunning clarity and some real insights into a work that’s a lot more complex than other recordings will have you realize. There are inner details revealing Bartok’s complex cross-rhythms that often get lost in the frenzy of brass and percussion in many performances. Amazingly, this recording is as powerful and, well, “loud” as any other, yet all the delicate detail shows through. You’ll hear lines you never heard before, and discover phrases to be make up of combinations of instruments you didn’t realize.

Super Audiophile HD-Vinyls 24/192 (Foné) Il Cremonese Antonio Stradivari (Salvatore Accardo)

front-small-boxsetPlease welcome another  audiophile super-label: Fonè
I have read so much about the Italian super-label Fonè, so I thought, is time to hear the records, that so many HiFi lovers would never sell or give away. But I never expected it would be this hard to get the pearls that Signor Giulio Cesare Ricci (called Signoricci by the fans) produces, 100% analogue and very limited to 496 copies. Don’t ask me, why the hell 496 and not 500 😀  Finally I had luck and could get my hands on three of these black gold nuggets and….WOW ! My expectations weren’t disappointed.
Concerning this recording, I seldom heard the Stradivari as if it was played in my livingroom just for me. You can hear the violin breathing…
