Mono HD-Vinyls 24/96 (DGG) Ferenc Fricsay – Rehearse & Performance of Smetana’s “Moldovia” from “Ma Vlast (My Fatherland)”

Wow, what an exciting experience, to “sit” on the shoulder of Maestro Fricsay during a rehearse of “Moldovia” by Smetana. I never espected, that his German was this marvellous. You probably never heard such a recording. A pity only for the non Germanophones among you! Enjoy it anyway! The entire A and first half of B side is basically just the conductor instructing (and correcting) the orchestra with partially very creative language. Second half of B is the piece “Moldovia” itself.

HD-Vinyl Mono 24/96 (Mercury) Antonin Dvorak – The Slavonic Dances (Dorati)

Many thanks to Jean-Luc for these gems
Antal Dorati recorded the Slavonic Dances complete at least three times, and this set is the best of the lot. A superb orchestral trainer, he had the Minneapolis Symphony playing at a very high level, and his interpretation is one of the most exciting around: ferociously rhythmic, with brilliant contributions from winds, brass, and percussion. Mercury’s sound is similarly razor sharp, up close, and personal. –David Hurwitz
