HD-Vinyl 96/24 (Decca) Dvorak/Grieg – Serenade for Strings E-Dur/Holberg Suite (Marriner)

Reupped on request, now with FF links
Rivaled only by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Neville Marriner was one of the most important of the early figures who spearheaded the reawakening of modern interest in Baroque and early Classical music.

Farewell, Maestro Marriner. R.I.P. 🙁

My friends, you know about all the things in life that are simply the truth and you cannot do anything but to accept it: sun rises up, every day – earth is not a plate – Sir Georg Solti and Decca made the best Wagner-cycle and Mahler-cycle on earth. Period!

HD-Vinyls 24/192 (Decca) Giacomo Puccini – Turandot (Sutherland/Pavarotti)

front-small-boxset
This is not the rip from 2010 and not from 2012 but a complete new rip (Oct. 2015) in 24/192
This is the best „Turandot“ you can find in this world, my friends. Maestro Mehta and the fabulous dream-team Sutherland/Pavarotti are not of this galaxy. Add the great and wonderful voice of Ghiaurov and an angelic Caballè, perfect choir, a speedy drive, perfect tempi and intonations….i could continue ’til Xmas……not at last the stunning audiophile sound.
You‘ll never find a better „Turandot“ – Sutherland was ideal for roles like the cruel chinese princess and Pavarotti was born only for the role of Calaf. Finally, Maestro Mehta was born only to create this “work of the century”.

Thank you very much Jean-Luc
Beeing myself Rachmaninov 😉 I cannot comment properly….
OK, jokes apart, I want to give the ball to you all, because I’ve heard so many interpreters of Rachmaninov’s concerti, that I’m afraid, I wouldn’t be neutral. Let me say, this is a melanconic Rachmaninov played by a very young Ashkenazy and the sound is quiet good. Enjoy!

Audiophile HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Decca) Edward Grieg – Piano Concerto (Curzon)

front-small-boxset
Reposted with FF links
Curzon delivers one of his best ‘performances’ of Grieg’s Piano Concerto, with plenty of drive, a touch of aristocracy and a believably ‘live’ sounding aural experience on disc. He was notoriously difficult to please and refused publication of many of his otherwise good recordings. This one was not a problem and that is a guide as to its musical quality. It achieved ‘reference’ status almost immediately and has never slipped from that position in the 60 years since which is a remarkable achievement.

Audiophile HD-Vinyl 24/192 (Decca) Rachmaninov/Dohnanyi – Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini/Variations On A Nursey Tune (Boult/Katchen)

front-small-boxset
Complete new rip with the new rig and in 24/192
This disc couples two recordings made in 1959 at a time when Decca was at the forefront of recording technology. They also had on their rosta of soloists Julius Katchen who was perfectly attuned to these three pieces. Julius Katchen had an interesting combination of Russian heritage, an inexhaustible fund of energy both physical and mental, and a technique that overcame challenges with some apparent ease. This combination led him to make spectacularly exciting recordings of Liszt and these three works all of which respond so very well to his special brand of nonchalant bravura. In this he is also matched by the orchestra and Boult as conductor.

Audiophile HD-Vinyl 24/192 (London) Sergej Rachmaninov – Piano Sonata No. 2 (Ashkenazy)

front-small-boxset
All thanks for this gift go to Jean-Luc
Ashkenazy’s performance of the 2nd Rachmaninov sonata is much more gratifying than Horowitz’s, in part because he plays the earlier version of this piece.
The Etudes are fantastic, played with sensitivity and with those deliberate and well-thought out interpretations which make Ahskenazy such a wonderful performer. He’s also able to play with amazing voicing, making the entire set sound amazingly clear from top to bottom.
