Rare HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Decca) Riccardo Zandonai – Three Scenes From Francesca Da Rimini (Olivero/Del Monaco)

front_small_boxset
Get this oustanding and ultra-rare recording, before the world goes down

Reup because of Magda’s death.
The Italian soprano Magda Olivero, one of the most prominent interpreters of the Italian verismo operatic tradition whose career spanned 50 years, has died at 104.
The news agency ANSA said Olivero died Monday, Sept. 8th 2014 in a Milan hospital, where she was admitted after a stroke last month.
The Milan opera house La Scala, where Olivero debuted in 1938, honored her memory with a moment of silence before a performance on Monday. La Scala described Olivero’s voice as charismatic, her acting as formidable and her intelligence as “ready and cutting until the end”.
Olivero took a break from performing after her 1941 marriage, returning to the stage in 1958 in the title role of Adriana Lecouvreur at the urging of the opera’s composer Francesco Cilea. It became one of her most memorable roles.

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Decca) Ludwig van Beethoven – Fidelio (Nilsson/Maazel)

This is a “child” of the flea markets – vinyls are like new, but the libretto is missed. The lady said, this box was near untouched for more than 40 years. Played only twice. Got it for 1 EUR – Reposted, now with FF links
This is a thoroughly top notch recording! Birgit Nilsson makes, I feel, a great Leonora/Fidelio. The woman was a female Caruso!! As for McCracken’s Florestan, WOW!! What a sound!

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Decca) Amilcare Ponchielli – La Gioconda (Tebaldi/Bergonzi/Merrill)

front_small_boxset
Many thanks to our friend BOB for this beauty
I never quite realised how much I appreciate this recording until I saw Tebaldi singing “Suicidio!”. Her massive voice, which she was able to tune down when required and sing the warmest phrase, had matured by the mid 60s when she tackled the role on stage and made it ideal for this dangerous role. Combined with her commanding stage presence it’s no wonder she received such huge acclaim as Gioconda.

Vinyls 16/44.1 (Decca) Richard Wagner – Der fliegende Holländer (Dorati)

London and Rysanek sung their roles for a long time until London lost the use of one his vocal chords and while singing at the Met. I’ve heard the competition and none measure up to this recording.
Sorry, “only” 16 bit & 44.1 kHz – made for my personal joy many years ago, as i had no mind for HD

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Decca) Vincenzo Bellini – I Puritani (Sutherland/Pavarotti/Bonynge)

front_small_boxsetMany thanks to our Bob for this fantastic gift
Maybe I get sentimental, when I get older and older, but I always send a kiss to heaven and cannot thank enough, if I can hear again the voices of Sutherland, Pavarotti, Ghiaurov and the music of Bellini. The sicilian wonder Bellini died too early (aged 34), but he conditioned and impressed the opera scene like no one other. His handful of operas are among the most beautiful you can find in the operatics world: Norma, I Capuleti E I Montecchi, La Sonnambula, Beatrice Di Tenda, I Puritani.

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Decca) Franz Liszt – A Faust Symphony (Ansermet)

front_small_boxset Liszt’s Eine Faust-Symphonie, based on the Faust legend, is an hour-long work for tenor, choir and orchestra, based on the Faust legend. The Suisse Romande Orchestra take to this complex score, one with which they could hardly have been familiar, with clear enthusiasm and imbue the performance with alertness and vivacity. The woodwind playing of the orchestra (not always enjoyed by critics) in the Gretchen movement is especially sensitive. Ansermet is direct, honest and conveys emotional intensity without resorting to sentimentality or the vulgarity to which conductors of this music are sometimes prone.

Régine Crespin was an artist of sensitivity, breathtaking vocal effects and one who knew when to step offstage to spend the remainder of her luminous career teaching younger singer her craft. Gone 2007, aged 80, she’s still missed, but for those who treasure her memory, this recording is a must.

Audiophile HD-Vinyls 96/24 (Decca) Ludwig van Beethoven – The Nine Symphonies + Interview: Solti about Beethoven (in German)

front_small_boxset
This is a broad, powerful, heavy-duty Beethoven symphony cycle, free of idiosyncracy, that can stand as a benchmark to measure against more unconventional interpretations, a kind of golden mean of Beethoven. Decca’s spacious sonics foregrounds Solti’s attention to orchestral detail; all the sections, particularly the low strings and the winds can be heard to beautiful effect. Solti’s tempos are expansive, and as befits a great opera conductor, incident rules over architecture.
