Rare HD-Vinyl (Mono) 96/24 (DGG) Igor Stravinsky – Le Sacre Du Printemps (Fricsay)

front-small-boxset
Many thanks to Jean-Luc for this rarity
Ferenc Fricsay made possibly one of the most interesting versions of Le Sacre ever made in the whole music story. It ‘s filled of entire conviction and above all profound domain of the discursive and bitter musical language. A notable sonorous richness, steeled modulations, extraordinary interpretative nervous, accurate and precision. The rhythmic obsession is delirious.

Undoubtly, the shining star of this recording is the Paganini-Rhapsody, a masterpiece composed by the greatest pianist the world ever saw and whose name I have the honor to use as avatar. A great discovery also was for me is Margrit Weber, a pianist I never heard before.
Also great to have some work by the little known composer Alexander Tcherepnin.

HD-Vinyl 24/192 (DGG) Ludwig van Beethoven – Symphony No. 9 (Fricsay)

Many thanks to our friend Jean-Luc for this beautiful 1st pressing
There are so many good recordings of the ninth that we will all have our personal favourite. Someone will go for technical mastery, others for emotional control and resonance for self. My preference depends in part on my mood at the time. I keep coming back to the old recordings of the late 50’s. Klemperer with Hans Hotter in London in November 1957 and this recording from the same year with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Ferenc Fricsay. The latter is a DG recording and is technically superior to my ‘Testament’ effort from London. Both are wonderful but in different ways and the history of each production plays its part.

HD-Vinyl 24/192 (DGG) Bela Bartok – Piano Concertos No. 2 + 3 (Anda/Fricsay)

front-small-boxset
Dedicated to Jean-Luc
Ferenc Fricsay was noted for his interpretations of Bartok and Mozart (and even wrote a book about the two composers). Fricsay and Anda were graduates of the Franz Liszt Conservatory in Budapest, where their teachers included Bartok and Kodaly. The performance is lyrical where lyricism is called for, and full of driving rhythms that are exciting without being crass.

Merry Christmas everybody !!!!
Many thanks to our friend Jean-Luc

It is very difficult to maintain the serene objectivity and required tact when we are talking about Ferenc Fricsay. Specially when we have to mention one of the most reminded and well known Symphonic works that for so many years has engaged and captivated the great audiences all over the whole world. What Fricsay achieved with the hundred musicians of the Berlin was simply incredible. The performance is filled of undeniable vitality, sweeping energy, stylized phrasing and mercurial passion. Such evidence of fervor and emotive conviction to be true, I have never listened in any other recording recorded previously and pitifully recently.
