HD-Vinyl 24/192 (Philips) Johann Sebastian Bach – 3 Sonatas And 3 Partitas For Violin Solo (Kremer)

Many thanks to Jean-Luc for the wonderful boxset
That Kremer is one of the greatest violinist of our time is no question. These 1980 recordings demonstrate an understanding of Bach’s aesthetic reaching far beyond that of most of his virtuoso colleagues (Milstein, Shumsky, Perlman, Martzy & Szeryng included). Kremer hits exactly at the intersection between skill, passion, intellect and soul–the essence of Bach. His interpretation of the ubiquitous Ciaccona in particular is a miracle of music-making; I cannot tire of its overwhelming incandescence. T
his music is Bach’s pure genius.

HD-Vinyl 24/192 (DGG) Robert Schumann – Violin Sonatas 1 & 2 (Argerich/Kremer)

Can Martha Argerich do no wrong? I have so many of her recordings, and what seems to distinguish them is intensity of feeling. When she teams up with Mischa Maisky the results are wonderful, and here with Gidon Kremer no less so. Schumann found no greater solace than music-making with his pianist wife, Clara, and close friends in the reclusion of his home. So it was scarcely surprising that his thoughts should have reverted to chamber-music. The A minor Violin Sonata was written in 1851.
