HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Hungaroton) Johann Sebastian Bach – Die Kunst der Fuge (Kocsis)

front-small-boxset
Many thanks to Trottar for the records
The Art of Fugue was J.S. Bach’s final composition which many justifiably regard as the apotheosis of his legacy. Kocsis is brilliant in his interpretations, the recordings are totally pure and clear. The technical command is flawless, and he has a complete idiomatic feeling for the music. The piano sound has lots of color and tonal variety, and there is nothing trivial in the playing of the pieces.

R.I.P. Maestro!

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Hungaroton/Philips) Frederyk Chopin – The Waltzes (Kocsis)

front-small-boxset
Many thanks to Trottar for the record
Kocsis’ rendition of the Waltzes captures the essence of these vivid compositions beyond another any pianist, including renditions of Rubinstein or Argerich that I have heard. They are soulful, mesmerizing and played with a gushing tempo that is more appropriate than any of the other recordings I have heard. If you had to preview one piece, simply listen to Waltz #7. Kocsis performs better than I have ever heard him: by turns playful, soulful, pyrotechnic, eloquently simple, and always impeccably lucid and effective. Each segment seems like a delightful musical gift.
It would be difficult to ask for more!

R.I.P. Maestro!

Only a re-up! Whit new archives and links.

You are warned: the bass of these bass pipes will blow you away 😉
Virgil Fox playes on the Rufatti Organ at the Garden Grove Community Church in California. The Artistry of Virgil Fox is evident throughout this recording as in all of his recordings. A beautiful farewell from a great performer and superb human being. I recommend it without reservation. Sensetional and spectacular High-End-Recordings by audiophile label Crystal Clear, whose standards were direct-to-disc recordings of the 1st class on 180g vinyl in a time, where no one thought to offer audiophile recordings on 180g vinyl.

Super HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Philips) Joaquin Rodrigo – Concierto de Aranjuez y Andaluz (Pepe Romero/Los Romeros)

front_small_boxset
A century work – one of the best sounding productions ever !
This is without question the definitive recording of the Concierto de Aranjuez. Every classical records collection should contain this album. Pepe Romero has performed the perfect marriage between technical virtuosity and emotional interpretation. As well, the SMTF Orchestra matches Romero note-for-note making for a truly magical listening experience.

Audiophile HD-Vinyls 96/24 (Philips) Rodrigo/Giuliani – Concierto Madrigal/Guitar Concerto Op. 30 (Angel & Pepe Romero)

front_small_boxset
This is another audiophile gem with the dream-team Romero/Marriner/Academy.
Why aren’t all music catalogs made of this quality? Anyway. The renditions are musically very satisfying and the works are pretty well-known. You can’t go wrong on these interpretations. Very tastefully treated though. Just one of those discs that I intend to listen to over and over again.

Reupped on request, now with FF links
Rivaled only by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Neville Marriner was one of the most important of the early figures who spearheaded the reawakening of modern interest in Baroque and early Classical music.

Audiophile HD-Vinyls 96/24 (Philips) Rodrigo/Giuliani – Fantasia Para Un Gentilhombre/Introduction, Theme With Variations, Polonaise (Pepe Romero)

front_small_boxset
This is another audiophile gem with the dream-team Romero/Marriner/Academy.
Maestro, Sensei, however you want to say it, Pepe Romero is one of the great artists of our time. Each note is a jewel that he performs with such life that you feel your heart beating to his rhythm. This is the 2nd great Guitar Concerto by blind Rodrigo.
Any devotee of Classical Guitar music, who is not aware of Giuliani’s work, is truly missing something!!! Giuliani sure must have studied Mozart. If you like Mozart (and who doesn’t), you will like Giuliani.

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Argo) Antonio Vivaldi – The Four Seasons (Loveday/Marriner)

front-small-boxset
I have many versions of the Four Seasons, on CDs and vinyls around 20 different performances and the comparison to each other is always very interesting. I often wonder what Vivaldi would have thought of all the interpretations that are out there. I must confess, the Academy/Marriner recording is among the more authentic, at least, to my ear. The sound then, as now, was sparkling and clear. Marriner and violinist Alan Loveday recorded this in the best tradition, with modern instruments playing sprightly and spirited Vivaldi. This was before the gritty and hyper-energized recording by Giuliano Carmignola revolutionized everyone’s idea of what the Four Seasons should sound like. There are zillions of versions of this work and many of them are outstanding. But for clarity, unaffected brilliance and sheer elan, there is nothing like this recording.

Audiophile HD-Vinyl 24/192 (Klavier) Camille Saint-Saëns – ‘Organ’ Symphony No. 3 (Louis Fremaux)

front-small-boxset
Without a doubt, one of the best performances of SS’ 3rd Symphony
Fremaux’s performance of the “Organ” Symphony is the only version I have ever felt was worthy of mentioning in the same breath as Charles Munch’s famous 1959 RCA recording with the Boston Symphony. What’s more, the Fremaux performance deserves its multiple releases. The interpretation displays energy, zest, excitement, and grace aplenty, with a second-movement Adagio that flows over the listener in soft, warm waves.
