HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Rainbow) Frederyk Chopin – Waltzes (Ingrid Haebler)

front-small-boxset
Many thanks to our friend Lemarquis for this treasure

Ingrid Haebler became one of the 20th Century’s leading interpreters of the Viennese classic piano composers. She came to the piano as a little girl, making her public debut in Salzburg at the age of eleven. She studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum, the Vienna Academy, and the Geneva Conservatory. She also was a pupil of the French pianist Marguerite Long., She won two prizes in 1954, one in Geneva and one in a Schubert competition at Geneva. She won the Harriet Cohen Beethoven Medal in 1957. While she has toured widely, she has made her international reputation with her finely judged recorded performances. These include all of Mozart’s piano concertos, in two traversals of that cycle, all of Mozart’s piano sonatas, all of Schubert’s sonatas, and significant amount of the piano music of Haydn and Beethoven. In addition to these Vienna-linked composers, she has made notable Schumann and Chopin series as well. One reason her recordings are so effective is a reason she sometimes disappoints in person: Her playing is very intimate, creating a personal effect that can sound unassertive in the vastness of modern concert halls. On records, however, this same quality often makes a personal connection with the listener. Then the warmth, sensitivity, and quietly nuanced expressivity of her intepretations come into play.

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Philips) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Piano Sonatas KV 457, 533 (Ingrid Haebler)

front-small-boxset Many thanks to Jean-Luc for this gem
Direct comparisons between Haebler and Uchida reveal that Haebler possessed a gentler, lyrical style. Whereas Uchida pointedly punctuates every accent, Haebler’s long lyrical lines reveal more of Mozart’s beauty. The differences are obvious from the get-go. Whereas Uchida blazes through some Sonatas (sounding oh so modern) Haebler allows the music to breath. In so doing, Mozart’s musical lines flourish.

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Philips) WAM – Sonatas For Piano And Violin (Haebler/Szeryng)

front-small-boxsetAll thanks for tis gem go to our friend Jean-Luc
These recordings dating from 1969 to 1975, were acclaimed by the critics at the time, and are still considered benchmark interpretations even in this age of period practice. Szeryng and Haebler, both great artists in their own right, combine beautifully. One can scarcely imagine these works being played any better than this. The balance between the instruments is nearly always perfect. There is no sense that either of the two musicians is trying either to outplay or to underplay the other. They seem to share a unified vision. Both perform with exquisite finish and beautiful tone, coupled with classical restraint–just what is required for this music. Fluid dialog and good balance between two great soloists who do enjoy playing together and go deep into Mozart’s music.
Friends, I can only say: to let go these WAM-Sonatas will be the greatest sin in your live. And…by the way, get everything you can find of super-vilionist Szeryng.

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Philips) Ludwig van Beethoven – All Sonatas for Violin & Piano (Haebler/Szeryng)

front-small-boxset
All our hearts and thanks fly to
Jean-Luc for this beautiful gift
My friends, in front of the Genius of Beethoven, I swear, I don’t know, which releases I love more: the Oborin/Oistrakh ones or these marvellous Haebler/Szeryng gems. Both pairs of gigantic performers are as great as you can never never get again in ten lifes. This catapults Jean-Luc in the heart of everyone, who loves Beethoven, as the most beloved brother, that life can bring to anyone. This is an outstanding box that includes the great “Kreutzer” sonata as well as Beethoven’s less well-known works for the piano and violin. The opus 96 sonata in particular is outstanding. The listener will greatly enjoy exploring using this collection to explore Beethoven’s ten sonatas for these instruments.

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Philips) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Piano Sonatas KV 570 / KV 309 / KV 332 (Ingrid Haebler)

front-small-boxsetMany thanks to Jean-Luc for this beautiful music
A fantastic pianist and the world’s greatest composer – Ingrid Haebler plays Mozart the way he should be played. (A great pianist is not necessarily a great Mozartian – Horowitz, with a few exceptions, did not really understand Mozart, and Gould’s playing of Mozart’s sonatas is simply too hideous to describe.) You won’t be disappointed with this one. Haebler’s recordings of this music have been neither the first nor the last I have heard, but they remain among the most penetrating and enjoyable I have heard. The music sounds perfectly natural under her hands, every note, every phrase, every chord, and every gradation of color serving the music. That she can play with such precision and make the music sound so spontaneous at the same time is one of the miracles of this record.

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Philips) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – The Piano Concertos (Haebler)

front-small-boxset
A gigantic “thank you” to our friend Jean-Luc for this gift
Ingrid Haebler knows that Mozart should be played with taste and not bombast. She refuses to make the music maudlin by adding grace notes or trills which aren’t in the score; instead, she plays it as it is written and lets it speak for itself (forgive the cliché). Listening to her play, you can see how well she understands Mozart’s famous statement: “Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius.” This is music from heaven. All the wonderful Piano Concertos are here on twelve discs. All are excellent. They are beautiful to listen to. It is the work and inspiration of a genius. If you want to go to heaven without leaving your House, then listen to this music.

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (Philips) Franz Schubert – Piano Sonatas 894, 664 (Ingrid Haebler)

front-small-boxset
Many thanks to our friend Jean-Luc for this beatiful vinyl
The legendary pianism of Ingrid Haebler has surpassed the test of time to become obligated reference and paramater of comparison at the moment to caliber the virtues of other artists of the keyboard. Haebler’s sound, noble and majestic, leaves you breathless. Her prodigious fingering, aristocratic musicianship and flawless articulation made her the most remrakable female pianist in Schubert.
These recordings are now part of a legend. Haebler (almost 89) lives in Vienna, and all of us owe her so much due these musical treasures will endure for the centuries to come.
