Audiophile HD-Vinyl 24/192 (Sheffield Lab) Richard Wagner – Music From Operas (Leinsdorf)

Audiophile gem (limited edition, direct-to-disc) from my own collection
The Sheffield/Leinsdorf sessions are well known among audiophiles, as they were originally recorded direct to disc, with a master tape safety backup. The frequency bandwidth isĀ  exceptional. The performances of these Wagner selections are excellent. Sheffield Lab has been out of business for a few years, so I’d recommend that you grab this while it’s still available. Sheffield direct-to-disc recordings were THE hot demo records in every audio salon. After suffering through countless listening sessions featuring Lincoln Mayorga, Harry James, and Dave Grusin, I was thrilled when Sheffield actually released an orchestral recording–Erich Leinsdorf conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a performance of excerpts from Wagner’s operas. Great music in great sound!

One of my favorite versions of The Planets, this was a particularly difficult album to clean up, due to all the extremely quiet passages. Still, I think it came out pretty well.
