HD-Vinyl Mono 24/96 (EMI) Ludwig van Beethoven – Violin Concerto (Menuhin/Furtwängler)

Made when Menuhin was 37, this recording catches him at his incomparable peak. His technique is effortless, smooth, and almost perfect, but it is his tone that is truly breathtaking in its intensity, radiance, purity, and personal expressiveness. The low register glows warmly, while the top has a celestial shimmer. Playing from deep inside the music, he emphasizes the music, making it dreamy, warm, urgent, ecstatic, ethereal, and almost too romantic. The Concerto, has …..

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (DGG) Ludwig van Beethoven – Wellington’s Victory, Marchs – Karajan

Many thanks to Eddie for this
I grew up listening to the LP version of this recording of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Wellington’s Victory, marveling over the percussion effects of Johann Nepommuk Malzel’s Panharmonicon. Wellington’s Victory or the Battle Symphony was composed in 1813 following the Battle of Vitoria. The music was an instant success and was Beethoven’s most popular works at the time. The music is divided into two parts: one to describe the battle and the other to express the liberation from French domination. One can hear the approach of the armies, the British represented by “Rule Britannia” and the French by “Marlbrouk s’en va-t-en Guerre.” The battle that follows is stormy with sounds of canon and musket fire, gradually falling into silence as the defeated French army withdraws. The victory music that follows contains all of the exuberance that one regards as pure Beethoven.

HD-Vinyl 24/192 (Decca) Mozart – Piano Sonatas No. 4 & 8 – Beethoven – 7 Bagatelles (De Larrocha)

Many thanks to our generous friend Jean-Luc for the vinyl
Although she was best known for her performances of Spanish music, the great pianist Alicia de Larrocha (1923 – 2009) also was a renowned performer of Mozart and Beethoven. This is a fine recording to hear in itself for those wanting this particular combination of Mozart and Beethoven piano works. The recording also is valuable for admirers of Alicia de Larrocha, and it helps to expand and preserve her legacy.

R.I.P. SPEARO MY FRIEND, I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU!

Analogue Productions has taken a classic and shaped it to make the premier reissue of this already illustrious LP. Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound mastered this album from the original analog tapes. The lacquer cuts were plated and pressed by Quality Record Pressings. The Stoughton Printing old-style tip-on gatefold jacket has been upgraded handsomely by a series of rarely seen photos of Walter from the Sony Music Archives. Everything on this reissue shows quality. Released as 45rpm version as well one can argue this is the best possible version to get . A highly collectable and highly sonical “MUST Have” for the classic music lover.

HD-Vinyl 24/192 (DGG) Ludwig van Beethoven – Symphony No. 3 »Eroica« (Böhm)

Many thanks to a music lover from China for this classic
A great performance. I’ve gone through a number of recordings of Beethoven’s 3rd – on vinyl and CD. This is one of the best; although recorded in 1962, the sound is clear. Bohm’s tempos are right on; the orchestra is tight; the soloists sound pumped and the choir soars. The finale makes you jump! They really nailed it! You never feel like you’re a passenger on a top-heavy ship in roiling seas – which is the feeling I’ve experienced listening to some other emotionally unbridled performances.

HD-Vinyl 24/192 (DGG) Ludwig van Beethoven – Sonatas For Piano And Cello Op. 69 and 102 (Fournier/Gulda)

Many thanks to Jean-Luc for this pearl
One of Pierre Fournier’s great recordings – arguably the best recording of this Cello work.. The recording was made when Fournier was at his technical peak, and partnered by the keenly-insightful Friedrich Gulda. They make sublime music together! Fournier first paired with Schnabel and later with Kempf. I’ve seen reviews to the effect that the Fournier – Gulda and Fournier – Kempf partnerships have equal merit and receive equally high praise. — But while it makes sense that Fournier and Kempf should make a natural partnership in musical temperament and style of play, Gulda partnering with Fournier might appear to be a surprising collaboration!… Until you hear them engage in a profound and brilliant (technically) conversation.

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Melodya) Sviatoslav Richter Plays Schumann, Brahms, Beethoven, Rachmaninov

Many thanks to our friend Trottar for this hidden gem
Sviatoslav Teofilovich Richter (Russian: Святосла́в Теофи́лович Ри́хтер, tr. Sviatosláv Teofílovich Ríkhter; IPA: [svʲjətɐsˈlaf tʲɪɐˈfʲiləvʲɪtɕ ˈrʲixtər]; March 20 [O.S. March 7] 1915 – August 1, 1997) was a Soviet pianist known for the “depth of his interpretations, his virtuoso technique, and his vast repertoire.” He is generally regarded as one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century.
I think, there is nothing more to say about Richter, that’s not been said.
Enjoy one of the greatest artists ever!

HD-Vinyls 24/192 (Columbia) Ludwig van Beethoven – Piano Concerto No. 4 (Ormandy/Serkin)

Many thanks to our friend Jean-Luc for this masterpiece
Anyone who thinks Ormandy was the purveyor of the hearts and flowers of “The Philadelphia Sound” and not much else should be compelled to hear this Beethoven 4 with Serkin. It is truly one of the great 4ths; lyrical, unrushed, affectionately rendered, but with no indulgences at all. Serkin loved this concerto with every fiber of his being, but played no games with it. And–make no mistake–he was accompanied by a master. Of the many versions Serkin recorded during his life, this is surely the one to get.
