HD-Vinyl 24/96 (RCA) Vincenzo Bellini – Norma (Caballè, Domingo, Raimondi, Cossotto)

front-small-boxset
Many thanks to our friend Bob for this rare gem
This recording is truly faithful to Bellini’s written score, as no music is cut or greatly embellished. You wouldn’t really notice, however, as singers, conductor, and orchestra alike make this opera come alive with fire and beauty. Caballe was a justly celebrated Norma, with the vocal size and flexiblity demanded by this most challenging role. You can feel the emotions she must have felt and radiated on the stage listening to her. This is a great performance by a great artist.

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (EMI/Angel) Giuseppe Verdi – Aida (Caballé, Domingo, Muti)

front-small-boxset All thanks for this beauty go to my generous donator from Lake Michigan area
Behind the pyramids and the elephants, the long lines of prisoners of war and of slaves carrying booty, the choral shouts of “Glory to Egypt,” and the splendid brass sounding the Triumphal March, Aida is the story of a love triangle: Aida, an Ethiopian princess who has become a slave in Egypt; Amneris, an Egyptian princess; and Radamès, the Egyptian general they both love (Aida secretly). There are ironies and conflicts: How can she love a man who is the enemy of her country, but who says he has fought and conquered for the sake of her love? It is suitable only for the biggest opera houses and therefore demands voices capable of great power as well as emotional expressiveness. Montserrat Caballé, Plácido Domingo, and Fiorenza Cossotto provide such voices, and Ricardo Muti conducts with a sense of drama and dynastic glory. –Joe McLellan

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (EMI) Giacomo Puccini – Manon Lescaut (Caballé/Domingo)

front-small-boxset
Many thanks to our friend from Lake Michigan.
Puccini’s Manon Lescaut is an Italian lyric tragedy drama. The opera is centered on Manon Lescaut (Montserrat Caballé), a beautiful young girl about to be sent to a convent. When Chevalier Des Grieux (Placido Domingo) sees her the flame of passion between them is ignited. Manon’s life is a winding one: seduced by riches that ultimately trigger her downfall but ultimately finding redemption in Des Grieux’s love for her. Conductor Bruno Bartoletti leads the New Philharmonia Orchestra as they traverse Puccini’s gorgeous melodies that permeate the opera, from Manon’s poignant arias to the lush orchestral score.

Many thanks to our friend Bob for this gem

This strikingly-staged production of Puccini’s final opera, “Turandot” was filmed with the Vienna State Opera under the direction of Loren Maazal in 1983. Set on a spare stage with a single ascending staircase rising up to Turandot’s chambers, and with sumptuous, impressionistic costuming, the production allows…

Yes, most of the major roles were taken by singers who at the time must count as “experienced”, but there is plenty of youthful vigor in the singing as well.

Phantastic sound and stellar performances…and this is the reason, why I offer this jewel in 24/96 although it is a digital production.
