HD-Vinyl 24/192 (DGG) Nicolò Paganini – Violin Sonatas (Accardo/Dutoit)

After +5 years revisited, with the benefits of the Black Bird Gang and the AR SP15
This is a hard-to-find gem, in my collection for +40 years! Paganini the first million dollar musician; anyone who loves the violin as much as I do, should purchase this without hesitation. Accardo blows everyone away with these performances; his fingerboard is on fire. Accardo is one of the best today, if not the best. The range, tone, dynamics, and profoundness of his violin is only rivaled by a few of the greats. These performances are as the master, Paganini, would have played them.

HD-Vinyl 24/192 (DGG) Nicoló Paganini – Violin Concerto No. 3 (Accardo/Dutoit)

The famous recordings of Paganini’s violin concerti by the great Italian violinist Salvatore Accardo and the LPO under Charles Dutoit has never left the catalogue, and no wonder. The performances are about the best around of music that’s apt to sound trivial in lesser hands, and the sound is excellent. There’s plenty of charm and real joy in music making in these performances, which present this music as music, not as virtuoso glitter.

HD-Vinyl 24/192 (DGG) Nicoló Paganini – Violin Concerto No. 6 (Accardo/Dutoit)

The entire DG Paganini Accardo – Dutoit/LSO is a winner in all regards. The analog sound has the most extraordinary bass capture. Tonally accurate, clear, robust, natural – no need to fret over a digital master. Accardo never fails to impress with violin virtuosity and fingering skill. Never a jerky bow change or under-phrased musical statements, always a shimmering tone, steady, rich, well-controlled. The technical demands Paganini wrote for the violinist of intonation and bowing techniques are handled with ease by the “old-school” classically trained Accardo. Dutoit and the London Phil in top form. This disc or the entire set or collected separately belong in anyone’s collection lacking these titles.

HD-Vinyls 24/192 (EMI) Niccolò Paganini – Violin Concerti No. 1 & 2 (Menuhin)

A feast for heart & ears. Without any doubt, Paganini was the greatest violin virtuous ever lived. By the way: marvellous sound on this reissue!
Stunning album so beautifully played. As can be expected, there are music lovers who relish the technical details of Paganini’s violin concertos, and then there are those who find themselves ever-so-comfortable in the rich and lush romanticism of his quitessentially Italian expressiveness. You may freely count your servant in the latter category: in th eopinion of your servant, no one wrote more exquisitely romantic violin music (with the exception of Pablo de Sarasate) than Niccolo Paganini, and Yehudi Menuhin captures the essence of this romanticism at the highest levels of technicianship and expressive musicality!!! The cadenzas are from an older era, but they are no less technically demanding, and Yehudi Menuhin shows himself more than equal to the task. An absolute benchmark recording for all lovers of violin pyrotechnics, as well as violin students.
Highly recommended!

HD-Vinyl 24/96 (EMI) Paganini, Dvorak, Bruch, Mendelssohn – Izthak Perlman plays 4 Violin Concerti

front-small-boxset
Once I had the honor to see & hear Mr. Perlman during a rehearsal one day before a concert in Berlin. I was in my former life travelling technician and one day I was (again) in Berlin, shortly after the fall of the wall. The customer, where I had to repair a gigantic printer had almost become a friend through many years and I always asked him, when I was there, who was actually there and with which concerto…or which orchestra, which maestro. Mostly there was nothing or not interessant for me (I was around 1-2 times in a year there). But one fine day the Muses were very friendly to me and Itzhak gave the Beethoven Concerto. Knowing my love to music, my customer asked me, if I would gladly attend to the rehearsal. I couldn’t believe it…. He phoned with someone and I could hear in the almost empty hall the wonderful playing of Mr. Perlman. Lucky me!
