HD-Vinyls 24/96 (EMI/Angel) Giuseppe Verdi – Aida (Caballé, Domingo, Muti)

front-small-boxset All thanks for this beauty go to my generous donator from Lake Michigan area
Behind the pyramids and the elephants, the long lines of prisoners of war and of slaves carrying booty, the choral shouts of “Glory to Egypt,” and the splendid brass sounding the Triumphal March, Aida is the story of a love triangle: Aida, an Ethiopian princess who has become a slave in Egypt; Amneris, an Egyptian princess; and Radamès, the Egyptian general they both love (Aida secretly). There are ironies and conflicts: How can she love a man who is the enemy of her country, but who says he has fought and conquered for the sake of her love? It is suitable only for the biggest opera houses and therefore demands voices capable of great power as well as emotional expressiveness. Montserrat Caballé, Plácido Domingo, and Fiorenza Cossotto provide such voices, and Ricardo Muti conducts with a sense of drama and dynastic glory. –Joe McLellan

Audiophile HD-Vinyls 96/24 (Decca) Charles Gounod – Faust (Sutherland/Corelli/Ghiaurov)

front-small-boxsetIf you want to know this great masterpiece composed by Gounod, or if you are just adding one more recording to your collection, please get this recording! You WON’T be disappointed! I have listened to many of the other catalogue recordings of this opera and this recording leaves them in it’s shadow. The orchestral playing and conducting are a revelation. Corelli is a ‘force of nature’. He portrays Faust as a tortured man. Sutherland is a stupendous Marguerite and Ghiaurov is a herculean Mephistopheles.

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (Decca) Vincenzo Bellini – I Puritani (Sutherland/Pavarotti/Bonynge)

front_small_boxsetMany thanks to our Bob for this fantastic gift
Maybe I get sentimental, when I get older and older, but I always send a kiss to heaven and cannot thank enough, if I can hear again the voices of Sutherland, Pavarotti, Ghiaurov and the music of Bellini. The sicilian wonder Bellini died too early (aged 34), but he conditioned and impressed the opera scene like no one other. His handful of operas are among the most beautiful you can find in the operatics world: Norma, I Capuleti E I Montecchi, La Sonnambula, Beatrice Di Tenda, I Puritani.

HD-Vinyls 24/96 (EMI) Giuseppe Verdi – Requiem (Giulini)

front_small_boxsetEven though the corruption of the Heirarchy, mainly about power, put him off the Church, and made it difficult for him to believe, Verdi expresses here his faith, or longing for faith. The Giulini recording of Verdi’s “Requiem” has long been a favorite of many listeners, both for the conducting and the quality of the soloists, most of whom were at the peak of their careers.

Yes, most of the major roles were taken by singers who at the time must count as “experienced”, but there is plenty of youthful vigor in the singing as well.

Phantastic sound and stellar performances…and this is the reason, why I offer this jewel in 24/96 although it is a digital production.
