Audiophile HD-Vinyl 24/192 (Smithsonian Institution) Johann Sebastian Bach – 6 Sonatas and Partitas For Violin Solo (Jaap Schröder)

Many thanks for this beauty to our friend Booksaregood
How wonderful to have a fine period violin recording of the Bach unaccompanied sonatas and partitas at budget price! Japp Schroeder does a fine, reliable and even job with these hallowed pieces, beautiful in tone (where period playing is sometimes harsh), and historically accurate without opting for eccentricities.
Recorded 1984 and 1985 in the village church of Oltingen in the canton of Basel, Switzerland

Audiophile HD-Vinyl 24/192 (Smithsonian Institution) Johann Sebastian Bach – 3 Works For Solo Harpsichord (James Weaver)

Concerto in D-Minor After Marcello, BWV 974
Italian Concerto, BWV 971
French Ouverture, BWV 831
These are exceptionally fine readings by James Weaver, but the star of this show is the Wolf harpsichord. The sound captured here is simply the best and most beautiful harpsichord I have ever heard. It is a mystery why it is so difficult to record or capture the harpsichord qua instrument, as opposed to “ye olde” social statement, with its essence sounding pin-pointy lovely, without clatter.
Recorded 7-9 December 1987 in the National Museum of American History, Washington D.C.

Audiophile HD-Vinyl 24/192 (Smithsonian Institution) Johann Sebastian Bach – St. John Passion (Smithsonian Chamber Players)

Many thanks for this beauty to our friend Booksaregood
This recording is amazing, beautiful, audiophile in every way. It was used by several studios and magazines to test HiFi components.
Among them this here: AUDIOREVIEWS

Ideally Bach’s wonderful St.John Passion should be heard in the original German in order to fully appreciate the ideal marriage of text and music which makes Bach such a paragon of excellence amongst composers. There are some excellent versions available and if I could gently push you in the direction of this wonderful and clean recorded little known Chamber Ensemble of the Smithsonian Society, then I would be satisfied that I’ve accomplished my good deed for the day.
Recorded 22-28 March 1989 at the Renwick Gallery, Washington D.C.
