This is one of the best classical box sets I’ve heard. Outstanding performances, stunning sound quality, and perfect pressings. Enjoy!

From the Deutsche Grammophon website:

For nearly 20 years The Originals has been Deutsche Grammophon’s flagship label for reissues. It is a collection featuring some of the label’s most iconic artists of the LP era with their most famous recordings in new remasterings incorporating time-delay factors to more exactly reproduce the typical ambience of an analogue LP (“original-image bit processing”). Initially intended to conclude at 100 releases to mark the company’s centenary in 1998, the series has gone from strength to strength, with nearly 250 releases and no end in sight.

This numbered limited edition 180g 6LP collection (all expertly re-mastered at Optimal from analogue sources and featuring their original front and back covers) gathers six classical masterpieces from the series – a veritable Golden Age roster from the decades when the classical record industry was in its expansive pomp!

From the booklet:

This 6LP set forms part of the celebration of 20 years of Deutsche Grammophon’s CD series, The Originals, which was launched with a bang – 25 releases in all – in March 1995. The discs brought together here, classics of the LP era from the 1960s and 1970s, are all included in the series, but are re-presented in their “original” format, without the mediation of the special The Originals remastering process, the elegantly-titled Original-Bit Image-Processing. In other words, these LPs offer direct transfers from untreated analogue sources.

  1. Is this a new rip, NightOwl? or, a repackage of the old rip? I am trying to decide whether I should download the set again.

Rather oddly, I am missing 5 and 6 of this set. It could be I was rationing drive space before I got an external USB drive for music. (Archives of the individual discs would be convenient for these big boxes, specially at 24-192 file size.)
