  1. Cliburn was very, very popular in USSR in 60’s because of his interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s music. In Soviet Union Cliburn was often described as “ours”. They was surprised, when this american played piano. Russians thought that Cliburn isn’t typical for american’s culture.
    I have a book by Sophia Hentova printed in Moscow in 1960 (2nd edition!) and called VAN CLIBURN (С. Хентова. Вэн Клайберн. 2-е изд. М., 1960)

    This brings back great memories. I was in school when we got our first stereo and this was the second LP that I bought… Haydn Trumpet Concerto was the first. I played it and played and played it until finally wore it out :-)
