Belgian conductor André Cluytens has the Berlin Philharmonic sounding much different than they do under Herbert von Karajan, and many will prefer his warmer, more human approach to Beethoven. There’s the same technical expertise, but a much more flexible approach to tempo, as well as a richer, firmer bass line. He’s also better recorded than Karajan usually was, and all this at super budget price. A real steal.
