This is one of the best Bruckner 1st’s on record. Wonderfully played by the Bayesrisches Staatsorchester
and masterly conducted by Maestro Wolfgang Sawallisch. They perform the 1877 Linzer revised version, the
most commonly played. The performance has incredible moments of tension, drama, lyricism and beauty, with
a wonderful care on details and balance in every orchestral department. The sound quality is also first
class. The result is one of the most satisfactory and compelling renditions of the work on record, making
a perfect match for Jochum or Haitink’s. An essential.
