Hail to the Man whose music won the contest

At the end of WWII, the US Government held a contest to come up with a musical piece to depict the power, might, glory and victory of America’s role in the War. Mr. Copland won. I believe it came down to ten or 12 finalists. Unfortunately, no one has a clue what happened to the other 9 or 11 pieces that didn’t win. I’m serious when I say I would love to have heard them. Some knock Copland for creating music for movies, which I find absurd. He could and did compose some tremendous and quite unique music with what I will call timely gaps or pauses in it never before heard. If you aren’t moved when listening to Aaron Copland’s music, you may not have a pulse.

Tribute to Lincoln

I purchased this set of Copeland CD’s because I wanted the Tribute to Lincoln narrated by Henry Fonda. This is a masterful recording especially for Americans in this time. The Tribute sends chills down my spine whenever I her it. My greatest joy however, was how much I have enjoyed all of the CD’s in the set. I tend to be much more of a classical listener. I have heard Copeland but not in any organized fashion. This set has brought a new and delightful experience to my listening options.
